BonkersAmy
Just wondered if anyone can help me. I did a 3 year degree in Primary Teacher with QTS (3-7years). We now know that this will not get us into Aus....SOOOOOO I am looking into the Early Years Initial Teacher Training Postgrad route and wondered if anyone had any experience or advice on whether or not this would work?? Not really sure what to add just want to see what people think on our options . Thanks
Needtoknow
Hi I'm sorry this isn't an answer. It's more an acknowledgement of how you are feeling. I have a 3 yr BA (Hons) in Ed with QTS from Durham Uni and I sent in a skills assessment form and have been rejected which was devastating, as my whole family are there. The reason they gave was that it was 3 and not 4 years. I tried to explain that the course is equivalent to the 4 year courses but it didn't matter. I am in same predicament, so thanks for asking this question. It seems there are plenty of Early Years positions in Oz but no primary teaching jobs! Selina Smith
I've had a quick google about the Early Years ITT as someone else has asked a similar question this weekend on another thread. As far as I can see it is similar to the GTP/schools direct scheme which AITSL will not recognise, it is such a new course that I can't find much info so sorry if I'm wrong!! I know the other person had called AITSL and asked about the Early Years ITT but AITSL used their usual response of 'we cannot suggest courses to get a positive assessment' I'll try and paste the link to the other thread. Have you thought about doing a masters in Early Years? Think that would count towards the 4 years of Uni education and Australia are leaning more towards teachers needing masters level education over the next few years (or so I've heard) xx

BonkersAmy
Thank you for your help. I am planning on doing the graduate route not the employment based route for that reason. We have spent so much time researching only for things to change. I can use this funded route to continue into a masters of early years anyway so that works for us financially. BruceandLeanne... you can do an online pgce top up through uni of worcester but unless you teach another language too it will not be enough for getting in anymore. At the moment only Victoria offers primary teaching and that is with the requirement of teaching and additional language. Hence why i am taking the early years route and just hoping! Thanks I think the question you should ask is whether there are any jobs for you, last i heard was massive over production of graduate teachers due to subsidised courses, i could be out of touch but just check , also check whether recruitment is by school or state govt , if by govt you may get no choice and find yourself in some hell hole like the Atherton tablelands
emmacornell
Hello not sure if this will help or not but I have a degree in Early Childhood and then completed EYPS (the previous qualification to Early Years ITT and apparently equivalent) I applied to have skills assessed and it was rejected. I then went on to do ITT through a PGCE:Early Years schools direct route and have just received my positive skills assessment just put in my EOI with 70 points - fingers crossed we don't have to wait to long!! BonkersAmy
That is amazing news, congratulations! I thought the schools direct routes were not accepted. Brilliant news though. I just don't know what to do as my BEd covers me to teach primary 3-7years but was only a 3 year degree. I could do a PGCE top up but then I still don't teach another language etc to meet the requirements for primary teaching state sponsorship. What was the EYPS you did? I have an interview to complete a full time 1 year top up to become and Early Years teacher in the 0-5 age range which I am hoping, in addition to my current qualifications may suffice? xxxx Good luck with it all!! xxxx
BonkersAmy
Sorry, also, where did you do your PGCE:Early Years school direct? And has that been acknowledged for an Early Years teacher role over there or Primary?xx
emmacornell
My Schools Direct route still had the exact same PGCE content and I was required to do the same amount of academic work I just had more time in practice and less time spent in uni, I still received the same PGCE qualification and a third of a masters - it just depends of which schools direct route you take as they are not all the same! The EYPS is now called Early Years ITT - which I believe is recognised here and would more than qualify you for the 3-7 age range - I had someone else on my schools direct course who is also looking to move over here however she didn't do the early years route so can't be considered as an Early Years Teacher over here so not to sure what she can do now! Just another update - I received my invitation today
BonkersAmy
That's wonderful! Congratulations! :-) That didn't take too long did it, how long did you qualification verification take? You have given me a bit of hope..I have my interview for the EYITT next week and have ensured I will get the experience of 0-2 to meet the requirements for Australia. I have already taught y1 for a year and mixed reception and y1 for 2 terms. This is out last ditch attempt I think. So many sacrifices I'm not sure I could cope with another failed attempt. Which visa have you applied for? Xx
