Driver licence rules?

Hello,

Wondering if there are any rules in regards to driving a car/renting a car in Australia.

Do you have to be over 18year, or older?

Do you need to have your drivers licence for at least 2 years (for example)?

Any rules about that?

As my sister just has her drivers licence and wondering if she is allowed to drive/rent a car when she comes over next month.

Thanks!

Most rental companies require the driver to be over 25. Some will allow younger (21 - 25) but impose a surcharge fee.

Generally the licence must have been held for at least 12 months but this can vary with the company. You would need to check with the particular hire company.

Thanks, and if you buy a car, will the police make any problem if they check your driver licence?

If you don't have it longer than 12 months?

No, there is no problem with owning a car as long as it is properly registered and the person driving it has a valid licence.
