Guest mccarudd
Hi all. Received my work visa today, and am off to Melbourne in January. A few questions I wonder if anyone could help me out with. 1. I figure I'm going to buy new furniture: does anyone know a website for a furniture retailer in Melbourne? 2. Same for electricals? 3. And a decent estate agent? Re the last question, I'm going to be working in Clayton, Caulfield & Berwick, so would like to live somewhere in the city with good access to the Pakenham line. I'm a single bloke, so don't want to live in the suburbs at the moment. Any advice gladly received. As would the address of the best pub to watch the footy. That's our footy

Guest Fraser
Hi all. Received my work visa today, and am off to Melbourne in January. A few questions I wonder if anyone could help me out with. 1. I figure I'm going to buy new furniture: does anyone know a website for a furniture retailer in Melbourne? Lots of furniture retailers... just depends on what you want, how much you want to spend, and how much time you have. At the low-price End there is Sydney's Lounges and Fantastic Furniture... who have stores in most major centres... reasonably cheap, but don't expect it to last for ever. Ideal for a first quick fit-out, with an expectation that you will have to replace in a few years. Harvey Norman is a big, big place with moderate-ish prices and moderate-ish stuff... but it can be a one-stop-shop if you are pushed for time. Beds... specialist retailers are best... Fotry Winks, Captain Snooze and places like that. Myers and David Jones in the CBD if you are rich..and Gainsborough if you are filty stinking rich. 2. Same for electricals? Harvey Norman does Electricals too. But Betta Electrical and Retrovision do them better, cheaper. ... There are also discount electrical places like Panasales who doe factory returs and end-of lines 3. And a decent estate agent? Search the web... ther are plent out there. Any advice gladly received. As would the address of the best pub to watch the footy. That's our footy  SBS telly does a lot of soccer, including coverage of the English premier league and European leagues... and did the world cup eaaurpean qualifiers and so forth... Guest IanL
Just a quick correction. SBS holds no rights to the EPL (they used to but Fox out the fee up from $1m to $1.27m which the didn't have due to Athens Olympics). If EPL is important you'll have to get Fox. Guest daisydeeds
Try http://www.freecycle.org if you are starting from scratch for furniture etc and have kids - what generally happens is you buy something or are gifted something like say a sofa in okay condition, you earn some money then buy a posher suite then you give the sofa you bought or were given originally back to the freecycle. that way furniture isnt put on landfill sites. There are groups everywhere. Daisydeeds.
