renting - how long before you get access to the housing

Hi,

 

How long does it take generally in Sydney to get access to a housing when you have agreed to rent it ? ( the time between the housing is made available for rent and when the current tenant leaves). It seems to be very short in Sydney, maybe because of high demand but where I live it can easily take more than a month.

There is no rule. However in Sydney, where it's fairly easy to get a new tenant, agents often don't bother advertising a unit for rent early. It's too much of a hassle to arrange "open for inspections" with the existing tenant. Whereas in other cities where it's harder to let a property, they'll go to the trouble of advertising as soon as the existing tenant gives notice.
