Hi to everyone. I wished I had found this site a few years ago, it would have been invaluable to me...a wealth of information

I have recently made the move back to the UK after living in Oz since 1972....yes 42 years, can't believe it myself really! I married a Sydney boy many, many moons ago and we lived both in Sydney and Adelaide during our married life. I've been widowed for many years now.

Both my children were born in Aus, though my daughter moved to London quite some years ago. My son lives up in northern parts of Qld.

Even after living all those years in Australia, it never really felt quite like home to me, my friends were mostly ex-pat Brits and being a nature lover I missed the very distinct 4 seasons that the UK experiences.

About 5 or 6 years ago I decided that I would like to return to 'my roots'. I started off by coming over to the UK and renting a house for 5 months just to see how it felt being back here. The following year I did the same again. To cut a long story short......I discovered that I felt really happy being back here and have now made the BIG step of selling up and moving back permanently. I arrived here on a 'one way' ticket in mid January this year...and haven't looked back since. I feel happy and contented, have a tiny little cottage that doesn't quite hold all the stuff that I brought 'back' with me. But this all feels so very right for me.

I know that I no longer live in Aus but I would love to join in with your forum from time to time....and maybe some of my experiences in moving back could be helpful to others contemplating the same.

What a lovely post and what a brave lady you are. Welcome to the forum, everyone's so friendly on here. Your experience and knowledge of both countries will be a huge support to many on here. Glad to hear your move back to the UK has worked out so well, I wish you all the best for your future.
