Gidza
Hi guys. I understand items less than a year old have to be declared and if they cost more than $1000 they will be charged import duty. Say I have something worth 1500 do I get charged duty on 1500 or 500 since items below 1000 go in duty free. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Suzukiscottie
Everything you import as personal effects and household belongings under a year old can be examined for customs duty fees. There is no threshold of $1000. If you are buying something off the internet from overseas then the threshold applies. If it's valued at $1001 including shipping then that is the taxable value, not just the $1 over.
