Guest km75
What do you like about where you live, and what do you miss about where you used to live (this is not an Aus vs UK post and be nice if balanced - positives about both)? We moved to Sydney on 1 Jan 2014. Prior to that we lived in the Scottish Borders and Cumbria. The things I like about where we live is: Being close to my husband's family - our children have their cousins close by (same sex and same ages as they are) and one set of grandparents; The weather, it allows us to get up to so much more outdoorsy things on the weekends (though raining right now); Being so close to the beach; Living in big city - and what that means, decent sporting events and concerts; more things on my doorstep etc.; I think (where we live) is much less "class-less" than where we lived in the UK - we live in a nice area, where people work hard - it's not snobby and a lovely mix of people from different backgrounds - we have made new friends through school and neighbours very quickly. The things I miss about where we used to live: My mum, my sister and her family, and my friends there :-( ; Living in the country (not suburbia) but only 4 hours by train to London, an hour to Newcastle and just over an hour to Glasgow and Edinburgh; The scenery - beautiful part of the world; Being close to Europe and America; The variety and affordability of everything, be it from insurance and broadband providers, to holidays and day to day living, and especially affordability of housing (Northern England v Sydney different ball game all together). starlight7
We've been in this house since 1992 and before that 17 years in a house 8 kms away for 17 years. I don't really miss the previous house except we knew everyone up the street there and often visited neighbours etc. That doesn't happen here but in some ways it is better that way. As for the UK- don't miss anything really except the old historical buildings- wish they had a few of them here. All the people we were close to over there have either died or moved, our life is here.
