Elven
Hi we're thinking about moving to Victoria possibly Melbourne. I'm just wondering what the job situation is like for a mechanical engineer/fitter. I'm a hairdresser. I'm hoping to make new friends once there as one of my fears is being lonely. Thanks guys Karen
starlight7
Melbourne is very, very big- whereabouts were you looking? It sprawls for about 100kms or so from one end to the other.
Elven
I was there in March. Haven't got any certain plans yet I suppose I need to do more research. Primarily work comes first so time to start the job hunt and see what develops from there.
starlight7
Good idea- probably you will be looking somewhere like the Eastern suburbs? I am sure you won't be lonely- you'll be too busy !

Celt Down Under
Hi Elven. Have a look at seek.com for jobs. Where you end up living will depend much on where you will be working. It would be no good living in the Eastern suburbs if either you or your Hubby ends up working on the far side of the city. If he ends up doing contract work where there is a need to move around, they usually pay travelling money to cover fuel. Eastern suburbs is fine. If you want more advice on suburbs, post for information on the "Life In Victoria" page which has a link at the bottom of this page. All the best to you with your plans. Elven
Thank you Celt down under. It's mind blowing plus my nerves about homesickness are kicking in now. Any hints and tips on coping with the stress of it all and settling in when we get there?
