Visitors from UK increased 8.3 per cent but Malaysian visitors jumped a big 24.1 per cent.

  • There were 6.6 million visitor arrivals for year ending May 2014, an increase of 8.2 per cent relative to the previous year.
  • There were 2.8 million visitor arrivals to Australia during the five months to May2014, an increase of 10.2 per cent relative to the same period of the previous year.
  • There were 468,200 visitor arrivals during May 2014, an increase of 15.3 per cent relative to the same period of the previous year.

 

 

 

Key trends by market are outlined below.

New Zealand

 

 

  • There were 102,000 visitors from New Zealand during May 2014, bringing the total for the five months to May to 465,400, an increase of 6.2 per cent relative to the same period of the previous year.

 

Europe

 

 

  • There were 26,900 visitors from the United Kingdom during May 2014, bringing the total for the five months to May to 288,500, an increase of 8.3 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 8,500 visitors from Germany during May 2014, bringing the total for the five months to May to 76,700, an increase of 14.5 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 6,500 visitors from France during May 2014, bringing the total for the five months to May to 44,600 an increase of 5.9 per cent relative to the same period previous year.

 

The Americas

 

 

  • There were 6,500 visitors from France during May 2014, bringing the total for the five months to May to 44,600 an increase of 5.9 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 8,300 visitors from Canada during May 2014, bringing the total for the five months to May to 62,400, an increase of 10.1 per cent relative to the same period previous year.

 

Southeast Asia

 

 

  • There were 29,200 visitors from Singapore during May 2014, bringing the total for the five months to May to 127,000, an increase of 18.7 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 31,800 visitors from Malaysia during May 2014, bringing the total for the five months to May to 120,600, an increase of 24.1 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 21,700 visitors from India during May 2014, bringing the total for the five months to May to 82,500, an increase of 19.4 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 10,900 visitors from Indonesia during May 2014, bringing the total for the five months to May to 50,800, an increase of 12.1 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 7,100 visitors from Thailand during May 2014, bringing the total for the five months to May to 32,800, an increase of 5.1 per cent relative to the same period previous year.

 

Japan and Korea

 

 

  • There were 19,500 visitors from Japan during May 2014, bringing the total for the five months to May to 124,600, a decrease of 0.3 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 14,800 visitors from Korea during May 2014, bringing the total for the five months to May to 86,800, an increase of 5.0 per cent relative to the same period previous year.

 

Greater China

 

 

  • There were 48,100 visitors from China during May 2014, bringing the total for the five months to May to 376,200, an increase of 13.3 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 13,500 visitors from Hong Kong during May 2014, bringing the total for the five months to May to 86,500, an increase of 19.5 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 10,000 visitors from Taiwan during May 2014, bringing the total for the five months to May to 49,000, an increase of 12.9 per cent relative to the same period previous year.

Very interesting stats thanks for sharing. I know up here we get mainly Chinese and after being in Sydney for over 3 weeks I'd say Sydney is the same.
