moving companies...

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Has anyone used PSS to ship their stuff? Or does anyone have any recommendations for a different company? It seems a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack!

Would greatly appreciate any advice,

Many thanks,

Kasia

There are lots of members who have used PSS on here and have been very happy, one good thing is they are registered with all the associations so it gives you some protection. However, like all companies on here you will probably find a handful who haven't been happy. We used Crown and had a lot of breakages. I suppose not one company can guarantee you won't have a breakage though.

We used John Mason, who use Wridgeways in Sydney - no complaints at all - seemed a good price for 20ft container and everything arrived in one piece, the Wridgeways guys this end were great too.

Anyone used Simpsons? Their quote came in ok so far, and their communication has as been good up to date.

How does one negotiate the price? Do you just say: we want to go with you but need it cheaper as xyz is cheaper? Tips please, thank you.

What are the hidden charges you are referring to ? just getting quotes in now.

It's important to ask all the companies you get to quote what costs are included/excluded.

For example, is the AQIS inspection fee included. (it's common for this not to be as the mover doesn't know what this will be beforehand so you can either pay before at a fixed fee set by the removal company or pay locally once they know what the charge is (may be lower or higher than the fixed fee)).

All other moving charges are typically included (this doesn't cover customs duties if anything you're moving isn't duty free) but things to look out for include making sure your quote is door to door including any port handling charges and that the delivery is to your specific property (i.e. the address and type of property, for example if there is a long walk, difficult access or lots of stairs) and if you've made any special requests (for example crating of any items) make sure this is included in the quote, as well as un-crating at the other end. Same goes for dismantling and re-assembling of any items.

Hope that helps?

Do you mind me asking how much you paid? We are trying to work out if we could get our stuff in a move cube box but think we might have to go with a small container.
