Guest Posted February 27, 2014 Share Posted February 27, 2014 Hello all, I have heard so many great things about the forum from friends who have gone through the process before me that I decided to join as I start to navigate the process of permanent residency. As a bit of background I am an electrician specialising in domestic / residential and have c. 10 years excperience since my city & guilds and time served. I have 17th edition and the old 2391 testing and inspection and have solar PV and hot water qualifications. I don't want to bore people on here too much with my circumstances I really love tackling projects like this but might need some help and guidance along the way I will also undertake to share my experiences with others in case any of my experiences are useful to others along the way. dewi Posted February 27, 2014 Share Posted February 27, 2014 Hi alex, By having brits passport prove that you have functional english and mnot compulsory to take ielts to prove your english capability. Best way to find out if you need the IELTS is to add up your points, if you come up short which I'm guessing you may due to no degree, IELTS along with state sponsorship are good way of making up the points difference. As a spark be prepared for the long haul, along with plumbers they seem to have a lot of hoops to jump through even after they get the visa and land in Oz before they are considered on par with there Australian counterparts and can work unrestricted, research as much as you can as plenty don't and jack it in and come back to the UK.
