Hi All,

I got my approval from ACS under 262112 ICT Security Specialist and now i need to lodge EOI. Now i have two options for state sponsorship - ACT and Victoria.

Which state should i go for considering more chances of sponsorship and job opportunities for my profession in IT and Information Security. I have total around 11 years of experience but ACS considered it from March 2008 for 262112 ICT Security. Regarding certifications i have - CISSP,CISA, ISO 27001 LA, CEH, COBIT, ITIL and PCI DSS. I also have Masters degree which was rated by ACS as comparable to an AQF Master Degree with a major in computing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I am not an expert but I would have thought Melbourne would provide you with more job opportunities, but then again you could be lucky and land the perfect job in ACT

Hey there! Well done on getting the Skills Assessment. With regards to where to live: this can be a bit tricky to decide! Keep in mind that your occupation is currently considered "Limited" by ACT so you'd have to get it verified before being able to apply, this could influence your decision. It is not incredibly difficult but can be quite tricky with regards to providing advertisements. VIC appears to be available so as long as you can meet the other requirements it could be a good way to go. Personally, I've had very good experiences dealing with the ACT SMP team, VIC seems to be longer and a little more complicated but it can certainly be done!

Have a look at ads, ACT may be less competitive than VIC? There are a lot of advertised opportunities in Melbourne, for example, but we have had a number of clients be very frustrated with the fact that the competition is enormous because a lot of people want to go to the big cities. It also depends on what style of life you are envisioning...a smaller city or a larger fashion capital?

As Pomqueen mentioned, it's great that you have a choice so have a look at the requirements and possible opportunities, maybe even get in touch wiht a few employers and make a decision then!

Cheers,

Claudia

Well, my personal preference for living would be ACT but - and it's a substantial but - your chances of getting a job are likely to be higher in Victoria. ACT's main employer requires citizenship so you are automatically cutting out a load of options by only having PR.

If you only consider the job market, hands down, go for Victoria. If we had a chance to choose again, ACT would be not on our list. 90-95% of jobs in Canberra are related to government, there is no industry, only services. And the major problem with government jobs is that you need security clearance and that requires citizenship. Now 4 months on in ACT and yet to find a job. If you just look at seek, you have 10x more jobs listed in Victoria and 90% of those are non government positions. Do the math and you may choose before you ask again. Good luck and hope your dreams will come through. :-)
