EOI radiographer timescale

I cannot help you with the time scale but I think it will depend on which state you are intending to go to where there are shortages. I did read in the paper a while ago that Melbourne had too many radiographers presently so it might be prudent to look at the jobs available. Good luck

I'm not sure if it goes on the the amount of point you have but I know it goes on how many radiographers have already been invited to apply. Just wondered if any radiographers had gone through this process. Good luck with your skills assessment if you need any advice just let me know.

Hi, first you need to get your skills assessed via Australian Institute of Radiography, you need to submit university results transcript, module descriptors, certificate, letter of job duties from your manager and 3 years CPD (which is a lot easier than ours. Whilst that is going through I would also take your academic ielts test, as you need both of these before you can submit your expression of interest. I am waiting to do my test now so I can not advise on using an agent yet as I'm not that far, however I think I will be going it alone so to speak as it looks pretty straight forward and will get family to double check all paper work before submitted. Hope this helps

Hi Jules,

I got L8 S8 W7 R6.5 so need to take it again as I need 7's in each aspect, but that was with very minimal practice I plan on taking it again in May/June time this gives me time to finish my forensic imaging course and practice plenty of times. I need to pass this before I can submit EOI

Hi clairejs83,

How did you get on retaking your IELTS? How's your application process going?

I didn't pass my IELTS 1st time either, it's harder than you think isn't it! L8 S8.5 W7.5 R6.5, I need 8 for each section for points. I re-took it on sat so 10 days to wait for my results and I should also have my assessment through by the end of July. It's a long old process isn't it?! I've just been looking at state sponsorship for Therapy radiographers and it seems only NSW, ACT & Queensland are open. I'm hoping to go for a 189 visa really but I will only have 60 points so hopefully that will be enough otherwise I will apply for state sponsorship.

Hi, I haven't retaken the IELTS test again as I worked out that come 2nd Jan I gain the extra points needed for the 60points to be able to submit EOI. My theory behind this was:- I've just been on holiday therefore money saved was for spending money for that, then by the time I would have prepared and booked for another test would be aug then 2weeks for results could well be sept by the so just thought if hold off an extra few months save myself money and stress. I've also had to get re-accredited as it ran out end of July. It is a long process but it's going to be worth

Hi Claire

My wife is a Radiographer in the UK and took the General IELTS test last Saturday so we are now awaiting the results. Fingers crossed

Would you be able to tell me why you said to take the academic IELTS as afar as I was aware AIR don't need the test for accreditation if the applicant holds a UK Passport, and for the Skills assessment I've read that only the General test is needed so we thought to take that as it might be a bit easier to get a band 8.

Also would you know what to put down on skill select with regards to qualifications, she completed her diploma in radiography in south Africa about 20 years ago but I read on the skill select that some diplomas equal bachelors degrees in Australia (for nursing from the UK in the example they gave)

I'm guessing AIR will be able to provide that information once the assessment has been done but just trying to get an idea to work out how many points we can expect so we can get enough to apply for a PR.

Hi, as far as I'm aware you need the academic IELTS for the visa as you are applying for skilled migration but don't hold me to that I just went and did it as I didn't want to have to sit 2 I case it was wrong.

For the diploma I'm not sure but I think on skill select it says degree or equivalent and if you've had the skills assessed then they will be equivalent.

Hi Claire.

You probably did the right thing, as once you've got it then no worrying about having the wrong one, I just double checked and it seems that they only require the General but will accept either.

Another quick question, you said something about January 2nd, was that just extra points for age or are there any changes to the skill select on that date?

Many thanks

Glenn

Hi Claire & Owen,

ive just been through this process...

I originally did the academic IELTS because l was thinking of sponsership and they required 7, I do have a British passport, however, I needed 8's for points purposes as I'm old! But I struggled getting the 8's, I kept missing it by 0.5! So a couple of weeks ago l sat the general and got 9's and a 8.5 so l was so relieved.

I also got got my positive skills assessment through AIR last week, it did take 22 weeks so prepare for a wait. I do have a British degree in Oncology & Radiotherpy Technology, so not sure how your diploma works from South Africa. You mentioned the nurses having diplomas and being accepted for degrees in OZ, that hasn't been the case recently as they have just changed the rules. I would be inclined to drop AIR an email to clarify, I found them very approachable. Your right regarding the points l have gained 15 points for this.

I submitted my EOI yesterday so l guess it's now the waiting game to be invited, I'm going for the 189 visa. If l can offer you any help please feel free to get in contact.

Yes you did read 2nd Jan, I decided to not retake the ILETS as I didn't want the added pressure of practicing for that along side doing a post grad course. Then realised that realistically I wouldn't have retaken the test till this month, then another 2 weeks for results then it's only 2months till Jan for the extra 5points needed also gives me chance to save up some more money.

Good luck Jules, let me know who quick you get invited, I have submitted my EOI a few weeks ago but with only 55 points as it automatically updates itself therefore I only need to check that has happened on 2nd Jan I'm hoping I'm in the aus by doing it that way.

That's the problem we have, age lol, we need all 8s so we can get enough points to apply for a PR 189 visa, failing that we could look into a regional sponsored PR 190 Visa,

Currently looking towards Queensland or western Australia but still need to find an extra 5 points from somewhere to get state sponsored if we only get 7s on the IELTS, that's why I was hoping we might get 15 points rather than 10 for the qualifications.

I think we will contact AIR, you're right they are very approachable, we contacted them a few times before submitting our assessment, but I'll guess we should give them a few weeks as assessment only just got there, so I'm thinking once they've had more time to start looking at it all it they'll be in a better position to let us know.

Good luck with your EOI Jules, let us know when you hear something, we are still at the very early stages yet.

Good news, we got our positive skills assessment from AIR, and was invited for a 189 visa for which we recently applied.

Does anyone have any experience with registration with MRPBA, is this something we can do before we leave the UK. We don't want to leave it until the last minute as we have a job lined up and I heard it can take a few months sometimes to complete.

Hi everyone

I've been reading your posts, so nice to hear about how radiographers are getting on on here because I can never seem to find much info anywhere. I am a student at the moment so many years before we can apply but that is our plan so always looking to find out as much as i can.

I have a couple of questions, it'd be great to get some advice....

Is it right that you have to have 3 yrs post qualification experience before you can apply?

What do you think of the jobs market at the moment, i worry that there are less and less opportunities for radiogarphers. Can you recommend any good websites for looking for jobs, other than the ones which always come up like seek and indeed.

There is hardly any info about salary on the jobs i find, do you know what a general radiographer with say 5 yrs experience could expect to earn.

We're looking at sunshine coast, hope there's lots of jobs there!

Thanks in advance

Gill

That's great news JulesRT that you got your 189 Visa. how long did it take from when you applied to getting your case officer to getting your Visa? I've heard it can take around 3 months. We applied end of December so anticipating a bit. of a wait now.

Yesterday my wife took a job in Perth so we are very excited as as long as everything goes well with the Visa we can go shortly after it gets accepted(fingers crossed) we will need to arrange the shipping and sell our house. thinking about putting the house on the market before the Visa decision comes back to give it a bit more time on the market before we leave but not sure yet what to do for the best.

With regards to Jobs we found seek was the best place to start as most of the agencies also seem to advertise there, with regards to Jobs I guess it ebbs and flows, we found that there are more jobs when looking at a specific area of radiography like mammography or especially MRI, over just general but that is just what we noticed when searching and I suppose could change but I suppose specialising in an area will like that would always improve chances.

Thanks for info on that Facebook group, strange but been on Facebook for years but never thought of looking there for such a group I guess cause of all the non FB groups that exist ?
