Fisher1
Hi Mikeway Welcome to the club. Shocking, isnt it, the first time you hear these huge sums of money being discussed? If you look in the forums, click on migration issues, you will find the parents thread. There are pages and pages of discussion about ways and means. It seems to me that there are three routes in. 1)Contributing parents visa. Cough up aforementioned huge sums of dosh and wait eighteen months or so. 2) Non- contributing parents visa. Dont cough up huge sums of money, wait 10 - 15 years (opinions vary on the length of time it takes). 3) Go on holiday to Australia with no intention of staying. Decide you love it there and want to stay. Apply for bridging visa which enables you to stay while your application for an ageing parent's visa is processed - takes ten years or so. You have to be 65 (I think) to apply for an ageing parent's visa. If you are on the list for a non- contributing parents visa (cheap but long winded) you can get a five year visa which allows you to stay up to a year at a time in Australia as long as you absent yourself for at least six months between visits. Now go to the parent's thread and work your way through the discussions. You can also google Australian Immigration Parents and will get the Oz gov. website which gives you all the details of applying for the various visas. Its possible to download the forms from this site. Good luck!
