Guest Guest66881
It is a sight that will bring - warranted or not - welcome relief to the minds of hundreds if not thousands of swimmers and parents. Courtesy of a breakthrough day of construction yesterday, this is the first image of what WA's first shark barrier will look like. gee13
No swimmers or recreational beachgoers have been taken by any sharks lately though.. Maybe they need to put this around surf zones in margaret river area where sometimes theres a case of accidental/ exploratory bite and release, generally coinciding with salmon spawning and near seal colonies. Or perhaps the govt should spend more money on safety on the road. To put into perspective - In WA 2013 death by shark =1 In WA 2013 death on roads = 154 To put into a bigger perspective - In WA for the last 100 years there have only 20 shark fatalities Divide this figure by the number of beachgoers and water sports activity per day over 365 days over 200 years then you get a staggering probability. Research estimates conservatively this year alone there have been over 4 million people in WA waters.. Yes the media like us to believe the waters are teeming with man eating monsters with one sole aim at eating us. Ever Wonder Why??
nicolac34
Hmmm, Coogee is my usual beach, hope this doesn't mean it's going to be swamped with people using it as it's busy enough anyway!
