Steph01
Hi everyone, I moved to Sydney about 3 weeks ago and today I went online to apply for a TFN number. It came back with a note saying I hadn't entered the country yet so I couldn't apply! Has anyone else had this problem? Do I need to contact Diac to tell them I've entered the country? I just assumed they'd know that when they stamped my visa. Or is it a case of just calling the tax office? Any help appreciated! Lawwa
Just give the ATO a call - there may well just be a delay in the system filtering through and they'll be able to chase it up quicker than you can. You shouldn't need to call DIAC at all.
Alan Collett
Probably the flaky IT systems the Government seems unable to fix ... yes, telephone the ATO. They'll probably ask you to fill in a paper form and to post it snail mail ... Best regards.
