Hi all

I am a car mechanic with 22 years in the trade.

I have experience working on all makes and models, petrol and diesel.

I have work for a Porsche,Mercedes,BMW, Audi specialist and also worked on Renaults, Vauxhall, Fords etc and an MOT tester.

My General Skills migration application is being finished off so its getting very close to the off.

Me and my family are looking at heading just north of sydney.

Could anyone tell me, would I be in much demand, I mean is oz crying out for car mechanics and would there be alot of jobs on offer and what sort pay range is there I seem to be finding it hard doing my research.

Any help anyone can give would be great

I wouldnt say they are crying out for mechaincs but a good UK mechanic wont ever be short of work, especially if your clued up on the newer stuff. A few of the main dealers also offer sponsorship so you could try contacting them and see what they have to say..

Hi chris ,

MY husband is a mechanic with similar experience to yourself and we are heading to Melbourne once our England home sells ! Soon i hope .... lol.

I emailed his cv to a lot of garages he was offered a sponsorship on a 457 visa job in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, they seem to be on the look out for mechanics with good experience , he was offered 60000 in Sydney and 50000 in Brisbane and Melbourne ! Works out about 23 dollars an hour take home a 1000 dollars a week on the 50000 wage.

Good luck , keep trying and you will get there! That's what we keep telling ourselves :-)

Hi My Hubby been in the trade 35 years with AUDI .We live in Qld now and he has always got a job with no problems. You are best to EMAIL DIRECT to the dealerships , they are always looking for experienced Uk Mechanics , your MOT certificate wont be worth much here if you work in a dealership, most send them OFF SITE to a specialised ROAD WORTHY mechanic, a little crazy we think as my hubby is also qualified in that area too.Its about making money but hey u can not live in Paradise and have it all .My Hubby's friend and also his old Apprentice works at the AUDI PARRAMATTA GARAGE in Sydney ( Pete Venables) he has been in Sydney for 11yrs now he used to work for the TECHNICAL SUPPORT TEAM with Audi , thats an avenue you may like to try with all your other mechanical skills on other cars .MY MAIN ADVICE to you is try and SECURE your job before you leave the UK .We did just that and so glad we did .Good Luck

they are def looking for mechanics in Aus. We have only been in Toowoomba and Townsville but both can't find enough/good mechanics and we think 50 to 60K is the average. Like they said, contact dealerships directly, no all of them advertise online but a lot is always looking. My partner had interview line up when we moved to Toowoomba and started two weeks after we got there. Good luck with the move!!

Well thanks all.

Thats a good idea about sending cv's before leaving the Uk.

We are going over for a holiday and abit of research in sydney and surrounding area this year so I will find out more then.

When there I was hoping to pop into some dealerships and have a chat with them.
