Shipping Baggage

Hi All

A quick Q and a recommendation.

First off the recommendation. I don't know if anyone's highlighted it here, if they have I'm sorry if I'm going over old ground... but if you're looking to ship single items & want multiple quotes from different carriers I have to say http://www.interparcel.com is very useful. I had a not bad quote from them for a 15kg bag to Sydney (door to door). Also, everything on their site branded 'interparcel' shipping is actually UPS.

Now, I'm flying Singapore Airlines economy on a 457 visa, which means standard baggage but does anyone know if I can pay to add an extra bag at a sensible cost. All I can find on the website is per kg excess baggage at loopy rates of about $50 (£35) per kg. I know Emirates & I think BA allow you to pre buy extra baggage allowance even on economy but I can't find any equivalent for Singapore.

All you can do is to ring Singapore Airlines and ask them, or maybe ask a travel agent, perhaps one that specialises in airfares? But those rates are for excess baggage are from Singapore Airlines' own website so I don't see any point to doing that?

[h=3]Excess baggage charges pricing policy[/h]

  • Zonal pricing: For all itineraries not including the United States / Brazil
  • Piece pricing: For all itineraries including the United States / Brazil

Hiya

Thanks for the reply. That's pretty much what I thought so going off other posts here I gave the airline a call. If you speak with them they will tell you that you can go to 25kgs without incurring excess baggage charges. I was just over, the combined weight of my two checked bags came to 26kgs, but the woman at the check in desk spoke with her supervisor and he okayed it without a charge. I also had a huge handbag and another rucksack as hand baggage with hand my laptop in it. The rucksack was better than a laptop bag as I could fit more in it. (Been here three weeks today!!)

EDIT: With regard to my interparcel suggestion, do bear in mind you will have to fill out the unaccompanied baggage forms and make your own arrangements for the courier you end up using to act as your agent, I was a little confused at first as to when the forms needed to be submitted but Aus customs were very helpful.
