Kapri
Hi My dog had her first rabies jab just before Christmas. Does any one know when should she have her second one, and then when will she need her blood test? We are still in 2 minds about whether to take her or leave her with my Mum (she is old), but we want to prepare just in case we do take her. BobPetairUK
Dear Kapri She does not really need a second jab - most pets only need one jab. But around 30 days after the vaccination is the time to get the rabies blood sample done. You are exactly right to get these bits done while you decide at least it gives you option! If we can help let em know. Bob
hre
Hi, less than 5 % of dogs fail the rabies blood test after on injection, so the chances are your dog only needs one then blood test 3-4 weeks later. The dogs that seem more likely to fail are either very young/old or have had recent infection or ongoing other health issues. If your dog is in this latter category, a second rabies jab makes it more likely to pass the blood test which is expensive and you don't really want to repeat that bit!
