Wee kimmy Posted January 4, 2013 Share Posted January 4, 2013 Hello, was wanting to no if anyone could advise me on health insurence, my family and i are hoping to move to Brisbane from the UK sometime this year and we have private health insurence that covers us for here, but will that stand when we move to oz. Iv been intouch with insurance company so just waiting on feed back, so thought i would ask on here also. Its Aviva that we are with. Many Thanks. Health insurance here in Aus is different to the UK, health insurance covers stays in Private Hospitals but not medical costs. Medical costs are covered by Medicare. Hence unless people have health insurance with gap insurance they end up paying more for using private health insurance. Also ancillary care can be taken out to cover physiotherapy, optical, etc. Our health insurance costs about three grand a year. I suggest you look at I select and see what is on offer in Aus. If you visit the Medicare site it will explain how our health system works. We pay for prescriptions, blood tests and xrays and visits to the doctor unless the doctor is a bulk billing doctor.
