I did my padi in Fiji after my WHV, one of the best places to do you Padi in Australia is Western Australia - Exmouth. Apparently the diving there is better than at the Barrier Reef. Another option might be Whitsundays - but Im sure you will be busy there if you do one of the 3 day boat tours. There is heaps to do on East Coast - if you are planning on going to the west coast it may be a good option to do it there.
