MikeW
Hi, I am working in Australia, I am a Permanent Residence (176 visa) and have been here for 16 months. It takes 4 years to be able to apply for citizenship. I'm sure I read somewhere that a company can apply in some way to expedite the process so you can be granted Citizenship before the 4 years. Is this true? Cheers!
Guest GeorgeD
Not that I'm aware of...although there are some circumstances where the residence requirement can vary: http://www.citizenship.gov.au/applying/documents/support_docs/support_1300t_1290/resi_variation/ They aren't very likely circumstances, other than serving in the Armed Forces which is the most likely of those. If you just work for a standard corporate entitiy, then basically no, they can't get you Citizenship any faster.
Guest katie007
You may have read and be referring to the new Visa Law alterations announced 1st July, example 4-Years on a 457 subclass cut to 2-Years both Employer Sponsored and Labour Agreements. MikeW
Thanks for your replies. That's a shame. The reason I was asking is as I work in IT in the ACT and you have to be a citizen to apply for nearly all IT related work.
