Any advice about getting super back? Lived in Oz for 5 yrs perm residency.

OMG it's a nightmare - I couldn't even find the form to fill out. The form I found is for a company to fill out rather than an individual.

It doesn't matter how insistent you are, Super refund has to be done through the ATO

 

The process starts with the ATO on their DASP site - once you're into filling in the form, it automatically checks your eligibility for a super refund (goes away and checks your visa type and details) - if you are eligible and your visa has not yet been cancelled - the process stops (but the form is saved and you can go back later to complete it) and you are directed to Form 1194 - this is where you cancel your visa - fill this in and send to the immigration e-mail shown and they contact the ATO to let them know that your visa is cancelled.

 

The ATO then e-mail you to let you know that you can continue to fill in the DASP form - when complete the ATO acknowledge receipt and them go off to reclaim your super from the Fund manager.

 

I spoke with the Fund manager and, in the case of visa cancellation, they are not allowed to release the money to anyone but the ATO - the eventual refund will come from the ATO in the form of a cheque, for your super fund value less 35% tax.

 

I suggest you just go on to the ATO site and start fillling in the DASP form - no harm in finding out. But you will need lots of details such as visa numbers, Super Fund name and ABN, so whilst the form only tales a few minutes to fill in, it can take a while to research all the info you need.[/QU,

 

Hi, thanks again but this all seems to apply to temporary residents and not to PR. Just had a look at the form 1194 and again temp residents????
