familywright
Hi. This will sound odd as we dont have buckets of money but am wondering if there is a maximum amount (or minimum) that should be put for the money you will be bringing to Australia on this visa .? We are going over with cash savings (probably to be banked before we go, not carried in our bags) with view to selling the house etc in Uk only if things go as planned. Guest GeorgeD
I suppose I would suggest the right answer is...tell them the truth! Estimate what you reasonably expect to have at the time. As a UK applicant for the Spouse Visa DIAC aren't really that interested in the amount of money you have. Your sponsor no longer has to provide an assurance of support, so it's not really an issue. You'll probably find the answer to that question goes into a database somewhere and if you say you'll bring $10,000 and suddenly transfer $1,000,000 or have a large sum of cash when you arrive, someone somewhere will want to know where it came from. International Money laundering laws, etc, rather than tax (you don't pay tax on transfering money in or out of Australia at all, you pay tax on earning money, not moving it) There isn't really a minimum or maximum amount, just put whatever amount is realistic for your situation. You don't have to bring that amount in when you do move, as your circumstances could've changed (house didn't sell, you don't want to move it due to exchange rate, etc)
