First we thought 676 then he spoke to someone on the phone at the immigration office and they said something about getting the 3 month visa and applying for an extension whilst he is here as that will be cheaper for him Its not that I don't trust him but I'm a little confused to know if this is correct. It had a 12 month entry limit to it but she could only stay for 6 months at a time. so in theory she could have stayed for almost 18 months so long as she left twice, each time just as the 6 months was expiring. I believe that they can alter the time limits for stayin ie; 3-6-9 mths etc. It cost us about £100, but money well spent to not have to worry every 3 months like on the e-visa.
