Guest lisa crowe
Its straight forward to apply for online, but because I'm already in Oz, I'm having to get all relivant information on the visa then sending it on to family members who are helping me sort out the kids visa's (as you can't apply from inside of Oz)...Now the fee issue, do you think Paypal is the easiest cheapest way to send monies to family so they can pay for said visa's? Guest GeorgeD
I thought you had to be outside of Australia to apply for the ETA visa...meaning that you can enter Oz using it. If you are already in Oz, then you probably shouldn't be using this visa! Remember that this visa isn't for British passport holders, it's only for holders of passports of the following countries: Brunei Canada Hong Kong SAR Japan Malaysia Singapore South Korea United States of America British passport holders have to use the eVisitor or e676 Tourist Visa, not the ETA (it used to the one Brits used, but it changed a couple of years back)
Guest lisa crowe
cheers for advice George, but youve read my thread wrong, the visa is NOT for me as I am already here!...Yes you can apply for this type of visa holding a British passport (all checked out) with immigration...My main concern was the transfering of funds...Would Paypal be my best option..Cheers

lebourvellec
You should be looking at the immi site not an migration expert. The etourist is free.

lebourvellec
Many of them are not qualified to give advice, if you call back you will likely get a different answer. As you need to pay for ETA that is why some companies will charge for the service.
Guest GeorgeD
Here is the Australian Government's site for the ETA website http://www.eta.immi.gov.au/index.html Honest, you can't apply for the ETA with a British Passport. When you apply there is a dropdown menu to pick which passport you hold, and it is the list I mentioned above. Anyone who tells you otherwise is only 4 years out of date...European passport holders stopped being eligible to apply for it on 28th October 2008. British passport holders use the eVisitor visa. It is FREE. You can go through an agent who will do it for you and you are paying for them to type in your name and passport number. They don't pay DIAC a cent, it's money for them to type in the stuff you have typed to send to them when you could've typed it in the the DIAC site for free...If you really have an urge to pay DIAC for a tourist visa, you can apply for the e676 which allows you to stay longer than the 3 months of the eVisitor. British Passport holders can apply for that, unlike the ETA! http://www.immi.gov.au/e_visa/evisitor.htm The first time I went to Oz it was on an ETA, the second time it was on an eTourist as it was after October 2008 and I was no longer eligible for the ETA So, to answer your question...Is Paypal the best way to transfer money to pay for a tourist visa? No. Don't transfer any money because the eVisitor is FREE. Your family members (assuming they are Birtish passport Holders) aren't eligible for the one you are trying to pay for anyway! As lebourvellec has said, don't listen to a word the people on the phone at DIAC tell you, they are not trained to give you any advice, that's the role of a registered agent. For transferring small amounts of money, yes Paypal is probably as good as any other method. Banks will charge fees too so the differences sub $100 are so small that it probably wouldn't matter much. For large transfers go with a specialist forex dealer, not a bank or paypal.
