Medicare rebate.

Hi all, just wondered if anyone could shed some light on my problem.

I had surgery last month, costing me just short of 10,000. I do have a basic health insurance, but was told by my surgeon and admin staff that I would get a Medicare rebate of 1300 dollars. Better than nothing!

I went into the Medicare office and handed over all the relevant documents, only to be told that I'm not eligible, as I'm from the UK!

I have been here nearly 2 years, always worked full time and pay my tax.

I'm quite frustrated, as any Australian would be entitled.

I'm on a 457 sponsorship.

As far as I am aware, medicare does not cover anything under the Reciprocal Health Care Agreements, that is not essential.

Private healthcare is advised as they do not cover it, if its not emergency.

It covers ill health and injury whilst you are a temporary resident in Australia which is needed before you return home.

Elective surgery is not a medical neccessity.

Information is here

No, it was elective surgery, with a referral from the GP..

Unfortunately like the others have said then you are not entitled to anything, sorry
