Roberts13
Just a quick uestion would we be entitled to anything health wise on a 457 visa? We have a 3 year old and a newborn and although we're not going out for 6-8 months or so i wouldn't like to think that healthcare isn't available to us for them. Are we entitled to it if we take the skilled visa route? I know it will take longer but if we have less restrictions on it then it may sway me towards waiting a bit longer and going for that one instead Thanks in advance
Guest dwaldron
There is a reciprocal health agreement between the UK and Australia for "medically necessary" treatment. See Visitors to Australia - United Kingdom, Sweden, Finland, Norway, the Netherlands, Malta and Italy - Medicare Australia. So you should be OK, but don't expect to receive a hip replacement or IVF treatment I guess.
Roberts13
Ah I see - was just saying to OH - we dont ever visit docs unless absolutely necessary but would be just typical that we need it when we haven't needed any healthcare for months. Nice to know its there if we need it being a new country etc etc - No IVF for me i've added my contribution to the world population now with 2 kids. lol- hip replacement might be on the cards though as had trouble with my hips with my 2nd pegnancy and only had him a month ago so still dodgy!!! better get mysen sorted before hand eh!!lol

I have a 3 year old and 1 year old, so far I visited the doctor 3 times with my 1 year ild with a very high temp, I have attended docs myself for "womans advice" and have not ahd to pay as used a "bulk billing doctor". However 2 weeks ago my husband snapped his achillies and we panicked a bit, I took him to a&e, he had a cast fitted and then we had to go to the bigger hospital to see the specialist, he had a xray & unltrasound and we have to visit every 2 weeks to have his cast reset in a different position. I contacted medicare who informed me as this was 2 "emergancy" teatment and then "neccessary" treatment by going back to have the cast reset then this is covered under the reciprical agreement. Fingers crossed! Em x ps do remember tho in Oz everyone pays for all childrens prescriptions which came as a shock to me. My one year olds antibiotics were $18 and 3 months of contrecption pills were $35.
