Very Short Term Let/Rental in Brisbane - Where's a good place to stay? Help!!!

Arriving in Brisbane on 1st of December this year and hoping to get fruit picking work asap to secure a 2nd year on my visa. So, as it may be a couple of days or weeks I am looking to rent a flat or hotel room on a day to day or week to week basis until I get placed on a farm. Problem is......I dont know Brisbane. Can anyone recommend a decent area that wouldn't cost a fortune and also isnt Brisbanes equivalent to Beirut.
