bensym
Hi All. I got my subclass 151 former resident visa granted today (yay!) and one thing that sprung up for me is what happens with my old tax file number and HECS debt. I left Australia in 1996, I have no idea what my old tax file number (TFN) was, or what my HECS debt was at the time. I'm just wondering if any of you have re-entered Australia on this visa, what happened to you with the ATO? Did you apply for a new TFN? cheers
Petals
Big brother will find you. I think we keep our tfn numbers I do not remember changing mine or getting a new one when I returned to Aus. Anyway the tax office will be able to help you, have a look at the Australian Tax Office on line site has everything you can think of.
Playghirl
Yep, you only have one TfN, I am now paying 300 Aud per month to my HECS,20 years after getting debt!
bensym
^^^^ thanks for advice both of you. I hoped I'd be able to slip under the radar on this but just know they will nab me. Oh well, something else to plan for. I shudder to think what the debt is now after 16 years of CPI weighting.:err::huh:
