I have only 70 points as a solicitor. for subclass 491 I submitted EOI on 22.12.2019. But I am yet to receive any pre invitation from QLD. I gave only one choice which is QLD. Now I am thinking to apply for subclass 491 of NSW. Will it be wise to apply for NSW?

QLD seem to be prioritising onshore applicants first and then also 190 as their quota is running out.

There isn’t any harm in putting one in for NSW but do you meet the criteria? You have to be working there first

So if we lodged an EOI to live and work in Perth (where we would remain for 3 years), roughly how long would and invitation take? And then the processing time?

How long is anyone’s guess... I put my invitation for 491 in QLD in December and got invited a week later.

Processing time is approx. 12 weeks

Hi guys, just thought I'd do a little update on things!

Still haven't heard back from QCT about teacher registration, they've accepted all the documents so hopefully this should come through in the next few weeks.

In the meantime, we also decided to apply for the 491 visa for South Australia. Secondary School Teacher is on the supplementary skills list and is available if you have high points - we are classed as high pointers with 95 so could apply under this criteria. No idea if we'll get nominated by SA but we paid up and applied anyway.

Our reasons for applying for SA alongside QLD are that the release of the allocated visas to each state indicates that QLD only have 1000 491's to give out compared to SA which has about 3,500 - we figured more opportunity potentially with SA and we really aren't fussy about states, sounds cheesy but honestly all of Australia is beautiful and we'd just be happy to be there.

Hopefully we get one of the two but I'll keep everyone updated!

Good for you! SA is a beautiful state

There isn’t as many jobs for teachers in SA as there is in QLD, however, it does all depend on subject. If you really want it, you’ll get it 😀

    Congrats!!

I'm looking at 190 in Victoria.

Are you a registered teacher in QLD? And you got an AITSL skills assessment too to be eligible for the Visa? I'm fully registered with the VIT but wondered if I would need to get the skills assessment with AITSL too to be able to apply for 190!

    Hey,

Yeah fully registered with QLD and actually working as a teacher here. I’ve already been invited for my PR visa but needed skills assessment first.

    Hi Guys,

I have a few questions about the 491 and the pathway to PR.

    I just read @ seekvisa

    • Visa will be granted for initially 5 years
    • Must live and work for 3 years in regional areas to get Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) 191 Visa
    • You or your partner will need to earn for those 3 years a minimum income each year ($53,900 per annum)- for the State sponsored stream it may be in any occupation however if employer sponsored it must be in the nominated occupation.

The new 491 visa permanent pathway will be:

Subclass 191 Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional): To meet the requirements of the permanent visa (from November 2022) applicants must have held a subclass 491 or 494 visa for at least 3 years, have complied with the conditions on that visa and have met minimum taxable income requirements. You must show earnings of at least $53,900 per annum for three years. Your partner can also be the main applicant for the 191 visa if they can demonstrate this criteria.

Is this correct that if we got a 491 with my wife as the main applicant, that I could be the one to apply for the 191 visa If conditions were met?

    Hey Eddie,

Yeah essentially it’s doesn’t matter which one of you earns the $53.9k, you’d apply as a couple again just showing her tax accounts/payslips etc

    Hi guys,

    Happy new year !

Anyone has idea whether the work experience requirement of Stream 1 regional visa in NSW, need to be full time work?

below is the post from NSW government.

    1.  Your nominated occupation is on the NSW Stream 1 Regional Skilled Occupation List

    and;

    2.  You have been working in a designated regional area in NSW in your nominated occupation, or a closely related occupation*, for at least the last 12 months

    and;

    3.  You have been living in a designated regional area in NSW, for at least the last 12 months.

    cheers

Has to be 35+ or more

Hi. I am just starting to apply for my registration. When adding teaching experience, the website keeps changing the dates that I add to it for each of my posts by a day or two. I've tried it in chrome and Microsoft edge. Any ideas? Did this happen with anyone else?

    No.. how odd!

Try clearing cache and then doing it again

Yes we are. Current average wait times are 12 weeks for us but I’ve heard of so many that were invited much earlier I though we might have been one of the lucky ones!

SA have a habit of inviting no one (or very few) for ages then invite shed loads of people over a 2 day period! So don’t worry too much

    • Thanks 1

Yeah we’re fine with the 491, it’s a good option and they have more spaces available meaning more chances of us getting one!

Hows your application going for the 190? Has it continued to go quite quick for you?

I read on a different site that all the 190s have been issued but obviously have no idea whether this is true. I also read that 491s have been issued to onshore people which leads me to think the 190s are all done maybe?

The 491 is still open for QLD 😊

Yeah 491 is still open for QLD and I don’t think it’ll close anytime soon. I’d get the EOI in for it ASAP!

I got the pre invite on the Thursday, got the official invite the day after and submitted everything that day! Takes a few months now, fingers crossed nothing goes wrong!!

This is what I’ve seen too. i think they are definitely prioritising onshore first which does seem to make sense to be fair.

We’ve got our EOI in for the 189 but obviously have no chance with that, and then put our EOI’s in for QLD when it opened for both the 190 and 491. I’m thinking it’s likely to be the 491 for us if any but we’re not fussy, we can easily meet the criteria to then go for the following visa to get PR.

Just have no idea when they’ll start inviting offshore and what this will look like!

I got my invite already.. but I am onshore. They’ve mentioned they have limited quota for 190 left, so you’ll probably get 491 (which is still a good option)

Ok so the way I'm understanding this now... the new 491 visa is a provisional visa - you stay and work for 3 years in the region and then apply for permanent residency under the 191 visa. With the 191 visa, do we know yet if you have to stay in that region or can move after that?

    You can move

    Hello everyone.

I am currently on TSS 482 medium term under occupation code 111211 (Corporate General Manager). I want to apply for 189 but realised 111211 is not an occupation code that's accepted for this visa.

Am I supposed to choose a new occupation code that's accepted for 189? What have people done in the past?

    Many thanks.

Well you need a positive skills test in that code. You can’t just change codes. This means that you’re eligible for a temporary skilled visa but not for a 189 permanent visa
