I see where you are coming from. Certainly an interesting read.

Further down in the audit though they talk about the 'skilled' and 'family' streams presenting similar low-complexity (or 'business as usual'). It mentions that the low complexity is due to previous visa applications providing readily available records and checks on the applicant, which makes sense. The 'family stream' applicants in the audit are current visa holders for citizenship by conferral, so their original PR application would have required similar history, health and character checks as a primary skilled visa holder. I can't see anywhere where it mentions a different measure of processing time between 'skilled' and 'family' streams.

The other remaining stream ('Humanitarian') is obviously an outlier, with what must be frequent lack of readily available records (or difficulty attaining them), but i'd question if we have any applicants in that stream on the forum.

Complex cases too, as they state in the audit - for sure, that'd definitely increase processing time, but a complex case could occur across any of the 'streams'.

Putting humanitarian aside, i'm still not sure we have enough to go on to consider a systematic difference in processing time based on PR type.

I'd basically talking my way out of this as i'd rather not have another potential process to overthink 😂

Yeah, I may have a habit of overthinking just about every aspect of the process. Sadly, there is a lot of time to do so, but eventually it will all be over.

I don't believe PR pathway is a factor in processing time. Citizenship eligibility only goes as far as the time spent as a permanent resident - it doesn't go any more granular than that in regards to type of PR an applicant has. There's no reason the type of PR would be used as a variable in the processing of citizenship.

Supposedly how you gained permanent residency does factor somewhat into the processing of citizenship applications according to the ANAO audit that was done on DOHA. It stated that applications were often put into separate groups according to whether they were skilled migrants, partner visa, humanitarian stream, etc. Supposedly certain teams are assigned to each different batch, with the most complex cases being handled by a special task force (recently confirmed by Minister for Immigration David Coleman ).

The exact wording of the ANAO citizenship application audit reads:

"The type of visa held by the applicant is used to categorise their citizenship application as having come from the skilled stream, family stream, humanitarian stream or other migration stream. Citizenship applications from the humanitarian stream have been identified by Home Affairs as being the most complex to process on average and applications from the skilled stream as being the least complex. The ANAO therefore used the migration stream as a proxy measure of complexity. "

After following many applicants, it seems there may actually be quicker average processing times overall for certain applicants depending on their visa history.

  3. Congrats! Just curious, did you obtain permanent residency by way of being a skilled migrant? It seems as though citizenship applicants who have come to Australia on a skilled migrant visa get faster processing than other permanent residents. Either way, it is good to see people getting fast test invites.

Test date received on 5/9/2019 for 19 nov

    reschedule to 16 /9/2019

Thanks for that. After doing a bit of digging, I found out from other Gold Coast applicants that the next two scheduled citizenship ceremonies are November 27, and January 26 (Australia Day). Sadly, contacting them to organise your ceremony or find out if you're on either is unlikely to be successful. They'll simply inform you that they or DOHA will notify you when you have been allocated a ceremony date. Hopefully if there is a backlog, they may add additional ceremonies. Best of Luck.

    Hi

    Gold coast council

    application online

    Apply date 17/05/2019

    Test date 16/09/2019

    approve date 16/09/2019

ceremony   TBA   ( anybody have an idea about next ceremony on gold coast ?  )

    thanks

Do you mind sharing when you received test date email and did you reschedule the appointment earlier? Thanks.

Not if the ceremony is scheduled 4-5 months later, which is the average wait at the moment.

Thankfully, Tasmanian councils don't seem to have any waiting lists for ceremonies. Many councils allow you to book a private ceremony at the local council office at a time that is convenient to you and the mayor. In cities like Launceston, applicants will automatically be included in the next ceremony as they only see a total of 100-200 applicants in total each year.

Hi Guys new to this site

    My Time Line

30/06/2019 - Applied Online with my Daughter

    22/07/2019 - Received appointment letter for 19/11/2019

02/09/2019 - Resheduled for Test and both Passed and I approved same Day

But my Daughter status still says “RECEIVED”, We are from Shire of Cockburn, Perth.

Is there anyone on this same situation??

I personally am not in this situation, but have heard it happening to many other applicants so it is not unusual. I am not certain why both individuals wouldn't get processed at the same time but have heard that many different case officers now work on individual applications so things may be a bit disorganized.

Does anyone know - if i reschedule my test appointment can i continue to reschedule? So if i grab a test date a month earlier but an even earlier one comes up later, can i reschedule again?

Congrats!! Yes as I understand it you can keep rescheduling to earlier dates as they become available as this has been done by numerous other applicants in another forum. That gives me a bit of hope as I applied June 30 this year...hopefully my test may come through in a few weeks. What region are you applying from again? BTW supposedly the best time to check for earlier dates is early morning and late evening.

it is glad to see someone from Launceston. Because this is the first time I saw someone who applied from Launceston😃😃 in all these forums and fb pages.

    My timeline is

    10/03/2019 -applied online

20/03/2019 - requested aditional documents (original birth certificate and 1399 form)

    26/03/2019 - document submited

    09/05/2019 - test date received

    12/06/2019- test

    Still waiting for approval.

Could u please tell me ur timeline too.

    Kind regards

    Nimmgaya

Yeah not too many applicants from Northern Tasmania. I only applied recently in mid June 2019. Haven't received anything from the department as of yet. I realise most applicants wait a long time for test invite, but your case gives me hope. Also glad to see that your test was scheduled roughly about a month from the invite. I have heard Melbourne applicants getting an invite for test but it being scheduled for next year 2020. Some say they can reschedule their test earlier but I don't believe that is an option with us in Launceston.  Hopefully you will get approval soon and ceremony wait time shouldn't be long compared with those on the mainland.

Did you take the test at the Launceston Dept of Human Services and if so did you go to the Centrelink office or somewhere else? Thanks again for providing your info and I will definitely update you if anything changes with my timeline.

I can't provide much help but noticed the FOI stated Launceston. Are you applying from Launceston? Just inquiring since that is where I am applying from. Do you mind sharing your timeline such as when you applied and when you received a test invite to give me a possible idea how long it may take. Thanks.

Plus you won’t be eligible till the day after the one year.  So get PR on 1st Jan, can’t apply til the 2nd Jan the following year.  You must meet the criteria at time of application.

Good news is that newer applications seem to be getting processed faster.

I believe this is incorrect. I contacted Home Affairs and they stated that your initial arrival date as well as the date you received permanent residency equal "full days". This means if you receive PR in Jan 1, then you will have completed the one year requirement on Dec 31 and can therefore apply on Jan 1st of the following year so long as you meet the 4 year requirement of being on a valid Australian visa. Many applicants have received approvals this way.

  12. Understand meeting the requirements at the time of the application. When you say it will be refused, do you mean you won't be able to proceed with online application if you are lodging too early? Or will it still allow you to apply online but then refuse it 12 months down the road when they look at it?

  13. Good advice rammygirl, my only fear is by waiting until July 1 and then having the government pass a bill extending the time requirements and having it apply retrospectively back to application received on or after July 1 2019. I am probably way over thinking things though.lol.

  14. I realise this is an older post, but I had a similar question. I arrived in Australia on a partner visa on June 30 2015 and have been a permanent resident since Nov 27 2017. I am looking to submit my online citizenship application this Jun 30 2019 as it will have been 4 years being in Australia and over 1 year as a permanent resident. The online residence calculator states I am eligible to submit on Jun 30 2019, but will I have a similar problem as nakulm above in trying to submit on that date? Must I wait until July 1 to submit? Will it simply possibly not allow me to submit application on Jun 30. Secondary question, if it does allow me to submit application but I was meant to submit on July, can they reject or deny my application for submitting a day early? I am obviously a bit paranoid about the process and simply want to get it right. Side note, I have not traveled out of the country for more than 60 days in the four years I have lived in Australia and haven't traveled at all in the last year in a half. Thank you for your replies.
