Would ticking the parcel as personal instead of gift have made any difference?

I just came across this site as I have also been caught out by these ludicrous fees & am trying to find ways to avoid them again. I had no idea what was involved when all I wanted to do was was send my son in London a parcel of some of his things. So there really is a difference in sending some personal belongings compared to sending a "gift"! A very expensive lesson learnt! I would have thought Australia Post would have said something as a reminder but then again dealing with Aust Post......don't get me started! So for Xmas it's 1 small parcel posted 1 at a time. I guess it could be exciting receiving a few little parcels every now & then....just like Santa leaving presents under the tree! Merry Xmas everyone! :)
