    Hi everyone,

A quick update on our situation - we have had our house on the market for about 6 weeks, had lots of viewings including 3 second viewings, and one stupid offer... but not managed to sell yet.  Two more viewings tonight so fingers crossed!

Other half has to activate his visa by 6th sept and I didnt want to be messing about going back and forth after such a long time getting the visa in the first place, so yesterday booked our flights for 30th August and that will be us, gone!!  So much to think about still... and his work knows but mine doesnt, so still need to give notice etc!

I also submitted my British Citizenship application (biometrics etc) on the 8th of April, and had my interview to submit biometrics at the end of April, so with us leaving at the end of August, its only going to have been 4.5 months since I applied and they are quoting an average of 6 months to process at the moment.  Really hoping mine shuffles through quickly as I want to apply for a british passport before we leave also.

Quick question on the moving process - how long do you get to pack all your stuff if you are using, say a 20 foot container? Do they drop the container and boxes off to you and you have a certain amount of time to do it? Or do you get the boxes before hand and then they just pitch up with the container, load it and go?  I need to get some companies in for proper quotes soon but we are still in the process of determining what we are taking so it seems pointless to get them in til we are a bit more organised (probably another week or two).

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Hi, we used ‘Simply Ship’ . Our container left in April and arrived in Perth last week. Has cleared customs, just needs to clear quarantine now. The company came and packed everything. They did a great job so will hopefully have good news when it arrives to our house in a weeks time 😊.if you have a company pack for you things move along quicker and if you pack it yourself insurance is more difficult.

just a quick update on us.....

we left Scotland on 15th April, arrived Perth WA 18th April. Spent first two nights in a hotel, then onto an air b&b where we have been staying since. The first two weeks were taken up with running around getting Medicare, TFN and driving licence sorted. We were well organised but I would remind you all to make sure you bring all your documents with you such as birth certificate, marriage /divorce, change of name certificate, copy of visa, anything really that relates to your life. As getting things organised required a lot of ID. You can’t do one thing before you do the other and it’s quite frustrating really. I know you have 3 months to do your licence but it’s best to do it quick for buying a car etc.

We spent the first two weeks viewing over 20 houses, partly to keep my mind off the dogs in quarantine which was hard. Being reunited after 10 days was amazing!!

we bought a house and move into it next Friday. We have been really lucky so far with the interest rates in our favour just before it dropped. I was lucky to get a job the first place I walked into. My husband is enjoying being a house husband for the time being. Everything falls into place it just takes time and you have to be patient.

I look back the last couple of months and can’t believe what we have achieved. The worst part was the last 3 days before we left, saying goodbye. You get to the point you just want to jump in the car and drive to the airport,

i don’t know what the situation with the visa’s are at the moment but it took us 9 months from application .

I wish you all the best in your move

  2. Unfortunately no alcohol unless you obtain a permit and pay tax. Really not worth it.

I feel your pain!! We had to part with a large collection too.

our container arrives tomorrow to be packed, I think I’m still in shock as I can’t quite believe the time has eventually come..... then off to Perth next week......

  3. Quick update on shipping containers.....

we have had 3 quotes now - PSS, Purdies Worldwide and Simply Ship.

all 3 quotes for a 40ft container were similar which included several items needing special crates, approx cost £6500-£6900. We have decided to go with Simply Ship as they were in the middle for cost but seemed very knowledgeable and good service. Also they have an office in Perth and live between UK and Perth so have a good understanding of things. Really put our mind at ease, but only time will tell!!

    hope that helps anyone......

    Hi Sarah

We are hoping to head out a similar time, also to Perth as its seems a great place to raise a family!

I don't have any great advice as we're at a similar stage but we've decided to open a hsbc account so we can transfer money when the exchange rate is good, and starting to clear the house now as we have accumulated so much stuff!

Great question by the way, and love the suggestion about eye tests, I didnt think of that! X

You will love Perth! Good luck with the move

I wish you luck, we had a viewing this morning after a 10th birthday Party on Saturday - I have never cleaned and tidied so much in my life.

Good luck with your house selling. We have sold ours but just hoping the sale goes through ok. I thought the viewings were hard work and stressful but now the waiting to see is even worse! I keep asking myself why I’m putting myself through this but so many people on here are in the same boat, doing the same thing, we must All be MAD!

all being well, we are moving to Perth middle of April. Good luck with the move

I can't believe our relocation back home is now just 8months away! We have been planning this for nearly 2 years emoji38.png

We plan on flying in September...When should we book our house removals? Pets vaccination have started, horses being pre-vetted for travel. Now to prepare the humans emoji16.png

Lucky you, having all that time to prepare. We have just sold our house (if it doesn’t fall through) and hope to fly April this year. Nothing booked yet..... hoping to make a decision on the dogs flights in the next two weeks, although have applied for their permits already.

most of the shipping companies require at least 4 weeks so you have plenty time to get quotes and get organised. We had a good clear out last year but still looking at a 40ft container. We are moving to Perth.

good luck with everything, I’m sure it will all go to plan

I might as well mention that the shipping company we are using are PSS international and insured using Letton Percival.

Up until this point the service from PSS has been overall good and I picked them over other shippers as other members on this forum have had positive experiences using them. Did anyone else have this experience?

    Thanks for sharing...

can I ask , was there a great difference between the two quotes for insurance?

    thanks

  8. Looking at quotes now....

one thing to ask is charges for decontamination of container if it arrives at destination unclean. Apparently it can cost approx $600. PSS brought that to our attention. Some companies offer cover for this for as little as £15.

we have another company out next week so will share info then.....

    Hey,

Yes we struggled with that @Urban_fox we had to put our son down as a child in the first box but tick no he wasn't emigrating with us as he has dual passports and therefore wasnt included in my application..... from what i read at the time it is a case of this is to identify those members of the family emigrating so unfortunately sounds like you will need to fill out the form @LouFerg was referring to. Loads of luck

Come on the November RFIs this week .... lets make this the last Australia day we are all (for those of us still here) in the cold!

In other news we have had John Masons and PSS round and will be starting a thread in the next few days for those of us looking at crates and insurance so anyone with feedback on this it would be great to know esp on costs, experiences and insurance %ages if you don't mind sharing.

Happy Australia Day to us all  🏄‍♀️🍻🏝️🏝️🍻

Hi, how are you getting on with quotes for shipping container?

sorry for putting this on this thread but.....

our house went on the market last week and hopefully will be sold on Monday 😁

so we are looking to leave the UK with our two dogs the first week in April, 🤞

we have had a quote for a 40ft container from PSS , I was going to try Anglo Pacific but some not great recent reviews. Also had a quote from Purdie’s in a Scotland .

threads on here are several years old... unless I’m missing them!

hope your plans are coming along

    Thank you
