  1. Yes, you can ship oak furniture. We took several pieces of oak Furniture with no problems.
  2. Hi, we used ‘Simply Ship’ . Our container left in April and arrived in Perth last week. Has cleared customs, just needs to clear quarantine now. The company came and packed everything. They did a great job so will hopefully have good news when it arrives to our house in a weeks time .if you have a company pack for you things move along quicker and if you pack it yourself insurance is more difficult. just a quick update on us..... we left Scotland on 15th April, arrived Perth WA 18th April. Spent first two nights in a hotel, then onto an air b&b where we have been staying since. The first two weeks were taken up with running around getting Medicare, TFN and driving licence sorted. We were well organised but I would remind you all to make sure you bring all your documents with you such as birth certificate, marriage /divorce, change of name certificate, copy of visa, anything really that relates to your life. As getting things organised required a lot of ID. You can’t do one thing before you do the other and it’s quite frustrating really. I know you have 3 months to do your licence but it’s best to do it quick for buying a car etc. We spent the first two weeks viewing over 20 houses, partly to keep my mind off the dogs in quarantine which was hard. Being reunited after 10 days was amazing!! we bought a house and move into it next Friday. We have been really lucky so far with the interest rates in our favour just before it dropped. I was lucky to get a job the first place I walked into. My husband is enjoying being a house husband for the time being. Everything falls into place it just takes time and you have to be patient. I look back the last couple of months and can’t believe what we have achieved. The worst part was the last 3 days before we left, saying goodbye. You get to the point you just want to jump in the car and drive to the airport, i don’t know what the situation with the visa’s are at the moment but it took us 9 months from application . I wish you all the best in your move
  3. Unfortunately no alcohol unless you obtain a permit and pay tax. Really not worth it. I feel your pain!! We had to part with a large collection too. our container arrives tomorrow to be packed, I think I’m still in shock as I can’t quite believe the time has eventually come..... then off to Perth next week......
  4. Quick update on shipping containers..... we have had 3 quotes now - PSS, Purdies Worldwide and Simply Ship. all 3 quotes for a 40ft container were similar which included several items needing special crates, approx cost £6500-£6900. We have decided to go with Simply Ship as they were in the middle for cost but seemed very knowledgeable and good service. Also they have an office in Perth and live between UK and Perth so have a good understanding of things. Really put our mind at ease, but only time will tell!! hope that helps anyone......
  5. You will love Perth! Good luck with the move
  6. Good luck with your house selling. We have sold ours but just hoping the sale goes through ok. I thought the viewings were hard work and stressful but now the waiting to see is even worse! I keep asking myself why I’m putting myself through this but so many people on here are in the same boat, doing the same thing, we must All be MAD! all being well, we are moving to Perth middle of April. Good luck with the move
  7. Lucky you, having all that time to prepare. We have just sold our house (if it doesn’t fall through) and hope to fly April this year. Nothing booked yet..... hoping to make a decision on the dogs flights in the next two weeks, although have applied for their permits already. most of the shipping companies require at least 4 weeks so you have plenty time to get quotes and get organised. We had a good clear out last year but still looking at a 40ft container. We are moving to Perth. good luck with everything, I’m sure it will all go to plan
  8. Thanks for sharing... can I ask , was there a great difference between the two quotes for insurance? thanks
  9. Looking at quotes now.... one thing to ask is charges for decontamination of container if it arrives at destination unclean. Apparently it can cost approx $600. PSS brought that to our attention. Some companies offer cover for this for as little as £15. we have another company out next week so will share info then.....
  10. Hi, how are you getting on with quotes for shipping container? sorry for putting this on this thread but..... our house went on the market last week and hopefully will be sold on Monday so we are looking to leave the UK with our two dogs the first week in April, we have had a quote for a 40ft container from PSS , I was going to try Anglo Pacific but some not great recent reviews. Also had a quote from Purdie’s in a Scotland . threads on here are several years old... unless I’m missing them! hope your plans are coming along Thank you
  11. I’m so pleased for you!! It’s a great feeling. our house is on market tomorrow so fingers crossed. Good luck with the move
  12. You don’t need to have children to be granted the 100 , just need to satisfy them of a genuine continuing relationship for 3 or more years
