Many of the big removalist companies will insist on unpacking all your boxes and repacking everything themselves.  The idea is that they have to certify there's nothing illegal in the container, so their staff have to see every item.  Other companies are not so fussy.   So that's another question to ask on the phone before you decide whether to ask them for a quote.

You both seem to have this topic covered. Good luck with your move

That's an important question to ask. If you are quoted for a shared container, it often means your goods are not in a separate, sealed crate - they're just in the container with other people's stuff.   The good removalists are careful to identify everything but inevitably, it increases the risk of things going missing, or getting damaged.  Some removalists do offer a service where your goods are in a separate crate, so make sure you ask.

Give them a ring tomorrow and look on the website. All wrapped and labelled and fully itemized.

400 cf  (around 11 cubic metres,) is much larger than a Large Movecube 6.2 cubic metres.  Probably works out around the same as having 2 Large Movecubes.

I think I'll get a quote as Clare suggests, but I've done all my packing, so won't need that service.

Clare - do they put all your things in their own crate?

I have packed into boxes, lots of them but they do it all  into their own packing boxes so they can do a list and make sure they are shipping contents that is allowed, and also for insurance purposes. ( I have a company also that's very reasonable for insurance)

I was using vacuum bags for clothes but it's a no no, they will sweat and cause mould.

What do you mean a crate ?

    Shipping Query!

Getting all geared up to book my Movecube, boxes stacked in garage - and now I'm getting a bit worried.  Will it all fit in a large Movecube?  What if it all weighs more than the allowed weight when they get it back to the depot?  I would have thought they should have the means to weigh the cube in the trailer, but they say not.

So, I'm looking at alternatives "just in case" and wondering about a shared container.  Has anybody used one?  How does the cost compare with a Movecube?  The wait for delivery is not a concern as I shall be staying with my daughter for the foreseeable future, and in fact it would be an advantage in a way for my goods to take longer as less time to pay for storage.  Are all the boxes just put in loose or are they packed in crates?

I'd welcome comments from anybody who has experienced (a) my concerns and (b) used a shared container versus a Movecube.  I do think with a bit of careful loading and an expert to help, my stuff should just about squash in a large Cube so that's the sort of volume, but no idea of weight.

    TIA.

Hi I'm getting a shared container with john Mason from liverpool, I had a visit for one staff to give me all info regarding packing and what's allowed and what isn't.

Very informative and low cost,   400 CF for under £2000 and  they re pack everything.

    Worth getting a quote

    Good luck

@CEJ Its difficult to say due to the time difference my daughter did the payment in Sydney around 11:00 time and the email was sent to me UK time 06:57 it worked out as 4 hours

@Kalil BPAY - there are very clear instructions at the bottom of the invoice on all the options how to pay with your unique Invoice number. Very easy  - some have surcharges and some don't - we went with no surcharges.

That's perfect thank you. And yes Bpay is what I'll use.

    Thank you

@CEJ I think these past 4 months have been worse than the previous 39!

I was there on holiday this time last year for my daughter's birthday and told her it would be the last birthday we will be apart but now her bday is on Thursday and I am still in the UK

I agree marilyn my mind tells me to wake up in the middle of the night to check my emails its exhausting 😫 but I'm keeping busy sorting through all my stuff, (mostly clothes and shoes ) and getting rid x

I initially applied for the 103 lodged in May 2012 I just checked what my status would be today and I would still have 4 years and 9 months still to wait - I did withdraw it in July 2015 and applied 173 in October 2015. Hopefully I only have a few more months to wait.

    Hi Marilyn,

Do you think it's going to be another couple of months for us ?

When so you think they will they will get in touch again ?

We are currently in Australia on a 600 visa. We had applied for a 173 visa and finally got the request for the VAC2 payment. Once we made the VAC2 payment, immigration responded with a request for additional information asking for documents to prove intent to return to home country. Is this normal for anyone currently in Australia? I would have expected that the case officer would reach out asking for travel plans instead.

Have other folks received similar requests?

Hi what date did you apply for your 173 ??

    Thanks

People who lodged 173 in Oct and Nov 2015 are currently providing docs asked for in February 2019 . They are still waiting to hear any more

H, has anybody who was asked for documents in Feb (87) day ago been asked for any further information since ?

    Thanks

We tend to suggest payment of the 2nd VAC by bank draft - it saves hundreds of $'s compared with a payment by VISA or MasterCard.

Even though not given as an option the PVC still accepts payments this way.

    Best regards.

I have just read a post that you wrote which I have just viewed on my iPad (although can't see it on my laptop), where you quote "I'm a migrant and I would never have regarded it as my right to bring my parents to Australia with me"

I am a bit confused - I am on this forum looking for helpful  information  on the "NEW PIO PARENTS VISA thread"  - and from what you are writing on here, it comes across as you don't agree with parents joining their children in Australia,  surprising as this thread is about parent migrating!!

I am a parent and all three of my children are settled and citizens of Australia now.  My husband and I applied for a CPV 143 after careful consideration and only after our children keep giving us the forms to compete with our birthday/christmas presents - it is our children's wishes that we join them, we are still both of working age and have approximately 15 years working life yet until we reach our pensionable age, which is not necessarily retirement age.  If we are lucky enough to get a Visa, we both will be joining the ranks of the workers and paying into the Australian tax system.  Yes, we may not pay as much as our children will pay in over their life time, but we certainly will not be "free loading" .
