  1. Hi all, I am eligible to apply for my Australian citizenship on 1 June as that will be 4 years I have lived in the country on a valid visa. The issue I am having at the moment is my dad has been diagnosed with terminal cancer back in the UK and I want to leave soon to spend time with him while I still can. Does anyone know if there is an option to apply for extenuating circumstances for not meeting the residency requirement as I am 4 months out from meeting it but probably won't be able to stay until June ? This would also mean I would need to apply for my citizenship this month. Thanks for any advice.
  2. Hi Marisawright, No I applied for the 309 from the UK while living there last March and was told to leave Australia for it to be granted in January this year. It's all abit of a mess really!
  3. Hi All, I am currently on a WHV in Australia and have been here since last June. We applied for the 309 last year and received the email to leave Australia for the grant in January. We booked a trip for May which has obviously now been cancelled due to COVID 19. I have been given an extension to leave the country by October for the grant however the issue is my WHV expires this June. It seems ridiculous they are still expecting people to leave the country to activate visas within this situation. I was wondering whether applying for the 408 visa would override my 309 application or whether anyone has had any luck in being granted the 309 while onshore during the pandemic Thanks in advance for any help or guidance!
  4. Hi all, Kind of related to the topic above. I was told they are ready to grant my 309 visa in January and am currently in Australia. I booked flights to Bali for early May and told Immigration of my plans. Now they are telling people in Australia not to travel overseas and the working holiday visa I am on expires on June 6. I am completely unsure what to do as they are cutting flights out of Australia dramatically and if I leave I may not be able to come back in for a while. Any advice would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!
  5. Hi guys, Sorry if this is something outside the scope of this forum but I just spoke to the Global Service Centre from the UK and asked whether it was ok to enter on a WHV in June once I have submitted my 309 application in March this year. They told me there was a possibility the WHV could 'cancel out' the 309 application but that the long processing times may mean this won't happen? I am pretty confused as I thought it was ok to apply for the WHV after submitting the 309 application. I don't know whether it would be better to apply for the de facto visa onshore once I have entered in June on the WHV? Any help would be really appreciated as I am really worrying now!!!!
  6. Hi all, I am at the stage of filling out the 'Relationship Details' section where it asks for information on the financial, social and nature of household aspects of the relationship to be filled out in the boxes provided. Would this be a point where you would cross reference the evidence you will provide once the application is submitted? e.g ' We share a joint bank account into which we each deposit money every month, please see Document 16- joint bank statements'. In addition, as I cannot progress past this section until it is completed, is there a further section where we have to provide a joint statement on our relationship as well as I assume this would essentially be the same information as provided in the 'Relationship Details' section? Sorry for the questions but I am just anxious about making sure it is right given the long waiting times at the moment! Thank you!
  7. Hi all, I am up to the section on the application form for the 309 visa 'Relationship Details' where it has four separate boxes to provide information about the financial, social, household and nature of the commitment aspects of the relationship. I'm not clear whether this is the 'statement' part that everyone refers to or whether there is a further part of the form which requires both the applicant and sponsor to provide details of the relationship. Should the 'Relationship details' page which I think is page 18/27 of the form be written from the applicants perspective or jointly with the sponsor? Its all just a bit confusing! Thanks
  8. Hello, A similar question leading on from the OP's one as I am in a similar situation! If I applied for the 309 offshore visa from the UK and then moved to Australia on a WHV while the 309 was still processing would this also potentially result in issues if I had not booked a return ticket considering the WHV is for 2 years potentially if the regional work is completed? Thanks :)
  9. Hi all, I am sure this has been addressed before but I was wondering what the rules are around entering Australia on a working holiday visa after an application for the 309 visa has been submitted? With processing times as long as they are quoted to be on the immigration website, I will need to enter Australia with my partner in June next year but will be ready to submit my 309 application at the end of this month. Would the working holiday visa automatically cancel the 309 application? Thanks!
  10. Hi Guys, Myself (UK citizen) and my partner who is an Australian citizen have been living together in the UK for the last 14 months after meeting in Australia 2 years ago and commencing a relationship. The living together part of our relationship started in the UK in July 2017 but it is in a shared house where my partner is not on the lease. I was wondering how to prove that we are living together as we are not named on any bills either. We have a joint bank account which has been active for a year and which my partner uses to pay his share of our rent. In addition, I was wondering whether the new sponsor requirements would affect us considering my partner lives in the UK with me and would not be able to demonstrate having an Australian source of income until next year when his visa here expires and we move to Australia. Thank you for any help with this in advance!
