Submitted my application in Jan 2020 from Melbourne. Didn't hear anything for a year. In Jan 2021 moved to Sydney. Received a test invite within a week. Sydney FTW.

Right, for me it's in other direction.Applied in May in Sydney, no reply or anything, moved to Perth in Dec, got my test done and dusted in a couple of week

  2. Just word of an advise. If you are not planning on getting License, please get the Photo id card from your state. It will cost you around $50, but solve lots of id proving problem in the future. You don't want to carry your passport all the time to prove your age. I know you have greek id card, but i remember my German friend had problem getting into clubs with his German ID card

Do you think the nationality matters of the processing time? Even from the official saying, there is no "discrimination".

I don't think so, but saw some delays where applicant has refugee visa. My case is pretty straightforward, Student visa, followed by 485 and then Permanent. I haven't travelled once since getting the PR and only once since coming to OZ.Also i am a single applicant

@garrychandi @Perth123 thought I would share this with you, did our citizenship test on the 12th of October in Perth and we were hoping to do Ceremony in January but was told today that immigration haven't  sent our information yet to our council. So will have to wait for a Ceremony in March 2021.

Ahh i see, i am hoping for an approval at the moment. Which council are you from ? There are some councils with few hundred backlogs in Perth

That’s interesting, so your friend just requested a virtual ceremony and they offered that to him 2 days later? Or did he/she have some sort of compelling reasons to do it online?

Yes that's correct, you don't need compelling reasons for virtual ceremony especially in NSW. If you are interested send an email to the following address with you approval letter or screenshot of your immiaccount

    virtual.ceremony@homeaffairs.gov.au
    virtual.citz.ceremony@homeaffairs.gov.au
    ceremony.act@homeaffairs.gov.au
    virtual.ceremony.act@homeaffairs.gov.au

Anyone received a ceremony invite recently and what dates are they having their ceremony? Sydney, Woolarah Council and surroundings.

    thanks

I am not sure about ceremony at council premises,But lot of people from Sydney managed to get virtual ceremony. If you don't mind virtual ceremony, you can email the virtual ceremony department.Friend of mine got approved on Dec 11th, sent an email for virtual ceremony and they replied back with Dec 23rd for virtual ceremony

    Hi Guys,

I'm about to apply for the citizenship and was wondering what kind of documents have you attached? Have you attached any character reference letters, etc?

    Thank you!

    Nat

There is step by step guide for the documents you need on the website. I have submitted the following

    • Birth Certificate
    • Passport
    • Proof of first entry (This is a tricky one. Some people have stamp on their passport for the first arrival and in my case didn't.If your case is similar to mine you can fill in form 1359 and email it to given email address on the form> You will get movement records )
    • Driver Licence
    • Bank statement
    • Photograph taken in last 6 months
    • Form 1195 (google search the form and you need to get it signed by someone from the occupation specified on the form.Same Person need to sign back of your photograph, which need to uploaded with the front side)
    • Police certificate from any country where you have stayed more than 90 days since getting the PR

I think that's all you need, Feel free to message if you require any more information. I have test tomorrow, wish me luck haha

    Hi,

Does anyone know the implications of moving interstate on citizenship application processing times?

We’re having to move interstate for work. Applied for citizenship by conferral in mid-2019. Haven’t heard anything yet other than the acknowledgement.

I know we have to inform the department of changes in address etc. Wondering if that’ll mean the processing work gets transferred to the new state and if that’ll push us down to the bottom of whichever pile we’re going to be placed in (I still have this image of files stacked on a case officer’s desk 😆).

    Appreciate any advice/info. Thanks!

Hey Mate, I moved from Sydney to Perth last week. After changing the address online,I emailed the Perth citizenship office last Friday regarding my concern of application  being stuck in between 2 states. I got the call on Tuesday from the Citizenship team in Perth, informing me that they have my application here and will allocate me a date very soon. Yesterday got the email with my test date for Jan 29th, which i reschedule to Dec 16th.

I am pretty sure i would have been waiting for a while for my test in Sydney, but seems like Perth has few applications on hand. Hope this help

    Hi all

I’ve just used the calculator to find out when I’ll be elligible to apply for citizenship. It seems I can apply earlier than I thought.

My PR visa was granted in April 2016. My “Arrival” date was a week later, when I returned from a holiday in NewZealand. I then returned to the UK for sixteen months, making the permanent move in August 2017. I spent two months in the UK last year, otherwise have been here in Oz the whole time since August 2017.  The calculator tells me I can apply in October 2020. I’m assuming this means I’ve been considered resident in Australia since April 2016, but absent for a chunk of time. Can anyone tell me if this is correct? I’d be well chuffed with the earlier date.   Thanks in advance.

yes mate, You residence starts from the date you first arrive minus the period you have been absent

I do wonder why the regional areas for in-person appointments remain on-hold while those in the larger centres are resuming first.

In regional area, tests are run by Service Australia(previously Centerlink) on DHA's behalf. I guess SA is busy with all this Jobseekers and other claims due to pandemic

Hello everyone, submitted my application early this year, and unfortunately being in the state which suffers from Covid the most 😰 don't know when we can resume in-person appointment here in Vic, but just wondering if Im allowed to move to other states next year and whether or not it will throw my application to the back of the line as moving to a differnet state ? 🤔

  12. Hey Guys, Looking for your some advise here. I am living in Sydney at the moment. I have applied for my Citizenship in May and considering current circumstances it doesn't look like I will hear back anytime soon. So I have decided to Continue with my Masters degree in Data Science at Uni of Western Australia. For this semester I can study online , but for next semester in February 2021 I have to move up there. I am considering making a move sometime in December. So I am wondering how does it effect my Citizenship application.Think I have to provide new address proof for sure but  DO I have to provide another photo signed by someone from Perth ?  And how would I go about changing the test centre etc. Thanks for your time
