  1. Hi, is there any overseas migrants in NSW who knows the easiest and quickest route to obtaining your gas fitting licence.

I have worked for BRITISH Gas for 12 years, lived in Sydney for 3 years and worked under a company's licence as a trades assistant, but was doing gas service work, on hot water heaters, boilers fires etc

I've recently moved jobs for a Melbourne based commerical gas service company, and they require me to have my gas fitting licence. I've tried already numerous times with skills certified and tafe however there is always goal posts the get moved and forms that need filling in that I can't as.dont have the evidence.

Anyone in a similar situation? Please any advice would be greatly appreciated

  2. Hi have you tried a company in sydney called Comcater?

Hi guys, anyone know of companies that service, repair, install gas catering equipment? I’m a commercial gas engineer looking for possible sponsorship. Can’t seem to find any companies that deal with this part of the trade? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated
  3.

Hi guys, can someone please help.

I am a gas fitter from the UK with 12 years experience, my skilled migrant PR visa 190 was granted in August last year. Part of the process was to send my qualifications etc to the TRA for a skills assessment. I had a successful outcome and was granted PR status. However I was not advised or aware of an OSTSR, that I now need In order to allow me to work under supervision within the gas / Plumbing industry. Can you please help or advise me how I go about getting this please. Thanks

  4. if its anything like getting an electrical license id plan for a year of not being a licensed plumber
Yea looks that way, it's a nightmare, why ask for skilled migrants then make it almost impossible for them to work when they get here...surely recognition of skills via certificates, references, employment statements should be suffice...I appreciate the regs are different but you should still be given a provisional and attend training for regs etc
  5. Actually, that's normal.  Most  tradesmen have to serve an apprenticeship or do further study after arriving in Australia, it's the way it works.
When you apply to Immigration, all you're doing is satisfying their requirements for immigration purposes.  It has nothing to do with whether your qualifications are recognised by the licensing authorities once you arrive. It's a great pity Immigration doesn't explain that to people.
Thanks for that, I had a phone call this afternoon from the master plumbers association, I apparently can use RPL pathway and obtain a cert iii in gas fitting, I would require some elective training and assessments but looks like I should be ok, after reading up on the Australian Standards and getting some experience under my belt

  6. Hi verystormy, new fairtrading is the licencing body, they have told me I need equlivavent certificate in Australia e.g. I have NVQ level 3 and not the Australian equalivant cert...can I work for another company, under their licence even tho i do not have a tradesman licence or certificate (which I can't get due to not having the offshore skills record)...can't believe I've been granted a skilled migrant PR visa and I can't work in my profession

  7. Hi guys, hope someone can help..I was granted a skilled migrant PR visa subclass in gas fitting in August 2017...part of the visa application I had to have my skills assessed for migration purposes to Trades Recognition Australia, I had to send copies of all my certs, employment evidence such as contract payslips etc...I was granted a successful skills assessment and subsequently able to apply for the skilled visa....this was granted, without the need for a practical skills assessment In the uk...my dilemma is that I cannot obtain a gas fitting licence in nsw without a offshore techinal skills record (practical assessment pass) will Any one please help and advise me what or who I need to speak to....I've tried contacting fair trading nsw and TRA who both pass me back to one another...please help someone...Thanks

  8. Hi Gas Tech

I understand at present you may not be recruiting for this post. I was hoping I would be able to pass my CV onto your company. I have been looking for this type of job online with no success, but this position is exactly what I do at the moment with British Gas. I believe my skills and experience are exactly what you are looking for.

I am a British Gas engineer at present and have been for the last 14 years, but I have decided to make the move to sunny Melbourne hopefully by the start of (2014). I had my skills assessed by TRA which was successful for the occupation of Gas Fitter. I have a NVQ level 3 qualification in domestic natural gas maintenance. I have done all lines of work whilst working for British Gas, I worked for Transco dealing with the distribution side for 4 years, dealing with gas escapes, gas service pipe renewals and gas repairs before I moved indoors to become a technical engineer dealing with breakdowns, installation and servicing to all gas appliances such as boilers, fires, warm air units water heaters, space heaters, back boiler units AGA range cookers, gas tumble dryers and unvented hot water systems. As of next week I will be qualified to work with LPG for all the above.

I have also done a 1 year secondment role on the British Gas National Technical Help Desk dealing with a wide range of departments and providing technical support to over 7000 engineers.

I am looking for a similar job to what I have here back in the U.K although I am willing to carry out any training that is required and even become a trades assistant for a while if I have to if that would help me get my foot in the door somewhere.

At the moment I have applied for state sponsorship and expect to hear back by end of September at the latest. I hope youself or anyone else out there could assist me with this.

    Thanks in advance

long shot this but don't suppose your still in oz are ya, after some help mate moved over to Sydney in November worked for British Gas for 12 years as a hydronic heating tech, looking at work or getting my licences any advice?
  9. I used to be an absolute magnet for mosquitoes.   Then I went to Darwin on holiday and forgot my insect repellent.  I went into the chemist and asked them for their strongest spray.  The pharmacist said, "I can sell you a spray, but what you need is this", and she handed me a bottle of Vitamin B1.
It was Nature's Own and I think the tablet was 250mg.
Sure enough, I didn't have one bite at any time throughout the week, even though we went into the bush and we were out in the dusk, too.  My oh took the B1 too, and he didn't get bitten either (but then, he rarely does so no surprise there).
Be sure it's Vitamin B1.  Don't let them sell you a general B vitamin complex, or any of the other B vitamins. it was easy to get up in Darwin because a lot of people take it as an insect repellent, apparently, but I couldn't even find it in Chemist Warehouse in Melbourne because it's not much used for anything else.
I've just been Googling and found articles that said it's all a myth, B1 doesn't help - all I can say is that it made a huge difference for me.
Hi how often did u take the tablets

  10. Why are you talking about the 190 visa? The poster has said he cannot apply for a 190 visa, only a 189 visa. So I am talking about a 189 visa here! I can’t comment on the 190 visa as have no knowledge of that.
It's the same conditions....my friend obtained a 189 PR visa 3 years ago. Didn't sit a practical or written skills exam (for his trade-gasfitter/plumber) the only thing he had to do extra was the ielts exam as he didn't have required points.
  11. You do need to do a skills assessment which is a practical and written exam. This assessment is also very expensive (from memory without looking at paperwork it’s around the £1,300 mark or just shy of that). Google. There’s plenty of information about it all. Have you done a points assessment test, which tells you exactly how many points you currently sit at?
Then y did i get my 190 PR visa without a practical and written exam. In order to gain the qualification to work on your own in Australia u need to do one it's called certificate iii ...NOT FOR THE VISA. ONLY PROVE YOUR LEGIT BY SENDING EVIDENCE TO TRADES RECOGNISION AUSTRALIA IN CANBERA
