  1. Hi Ian.  We first applied on 5th June 2015 so its been a long wait.  Still a while to go though as not heard anything since.  I have not been on POMS for a couple of weeks as have been away so got excited when I saw 7th Jan but later saw 13th Jan so beside myself now.  When did you apply and are you using an agent?

End of June. Nice to see it moving.
No we aren’t using an agent. I have spoken to a couple subsequent to sending in application and asked if they can speed it up. They’re very honest and say not. The letter of acknowledgment and receipt with all your references, file number etc means they know you are there! It would be nice to get that case adviser though.

  2. We are currently at 26 months waiting for class 143. My wife looks as if she is going to need medical investigations. This will obviously feature in any medical report. If the case worker eventually makes contact soon, what do we say? God forbid we go to the back of the queue. I would assume they will tell us to get it fixed and come back to them.

    Help please!!!

  3. Just one more question! Does anyone have any idea what happens when someone needs a medical condition investigated during the process? Once the case worker has been appointed and once the medical reports are in, if there is anything ongoing, would the Visa be denied or granted pending results? We just wouldn’t want to go to the back of the queue again.

    All advice welcome.

    Ian.

  4. Congratulations!! You must be relieved. Looking at the chronology of your saga, you allied in October 2014 and were presumably contacted by a case worker asking for form 80 at 2 years 3 and a bit months. We applied 1July 2015 and our receipted letter is dated 23 July 2015. This has all their references etc with our file number.

I am trying to work out when we will hear. What bothers me is that we are in Brisbane over Christmas for 2 months and as sure as hell, they’ll come after us then! From your process dates, it seems a process of about 6 months from when the fabled case worker finally makes contact till when it’s granted.

Would that seem right? It may be longer now of course.

    Well done!!!!

  5. That’s a bit ambiguous! I pulled off a miracle yesterday. I got a reply from Immigration! My UK passport will need renewed next year and I asked what to do. I also asked whether we should get Police reports before we visit for 2 months at Christmas, just in case another miracle happens and we get a case officer. They said not to bother as the case officer will decide on everything when the time comes.

I have no idea why they have slowed up so mich on parental contributory visas. Seems they shouldn’t be taking people’s money and sitting on it like this. Perhaps they should clear the backlog

    Best wishes

    Ian

  6. It's a bit rude to judge what someone wants to do Flano.  My idea of a bliss retirement is definitely not to become the school run and babysitting service but each to their own.  I wouldn't do it and I don't think people should expect the grandparents to do it but if that's what they want to do then good for them.  Ian shouldn't have to answer to you.

It’s not a problem. I have been retired for 10 years now. It’s really each to his own in these situations. We will just spend more time on our current ETA visas. I do really wish they would get a move on!

  7. Does anyone over 60 have any chance of getting a decent permanent job

Some people with good pensions don’t want one! We would become a school run and baby sitting service and would buy a decent house and put money into the economy.
The child minding service allows both parents to work and thereby do their bit for the economy.
If people over 60 want to work I suppose there are plenty of part time jobs. Bunnings springs to mind as a possibility. Full time doubtful I assume but don’t know the government policy on ageism.

  8. So? You can still consult an agent. If your mother is having problems proving you are dependent she really should be seeking professional advice.

    Hi there
Same topic. We lodged in June 2015 so should hear Spring next year we hope. Is there any point in asking an agent to pick it up? We have receipted letter of acknowledgement which has application number etc on it. Would it hasten anything if we asked an agent in Oz to act for us now? Do they have more success getting emails answered by the Department?

    Ian.

  9. It's the third time we got a reply! I think it helped that I put the file number from the receipt on the email. Doesn't work every time. Hope your exchange goes off ok. Keep us posted with your visa progress though! It's encouraging to hear of someone who has reached the end of the road!

  10. Yes, I'd seen that. The problem with is is our blind Springer of 12 years who is going to have to be put to sleep on the autumn. We also need to sell the house.

Then we have Nicola Sturgeon! She has affected the property market with her neverendum but it looks like she might finally be losing popularity. We just have to hope.

Like you, we would rather have it all sorted then leave.

We actually got a reply from a human at immigration on one occasion we emailed. She was able to tell us we could come and go as we pleased for 5 years once we had our visas and then apply for an extension if needed. That is also a relief when there are things to tie up.

  11. Blimey! That is complex. It's just a case of going through the process. We are acting without an agent. Daughter double checks everything. We will need to give her the money for the bond!

  12. You can keep up to date with processing times and find some moral support and helpful suggestions from others in the same boat by joining in with this thread:
    https://www.pomsinoz.com/topic/50481-the-brand-new-pio-parents-visa-thread/?page=518
You can also get latest processing times by sending a blank email to parents@border.gov.au, putting Test as the subject of the email.  Currently, 75% of 143 applications are processed within 33 months, and 90% within 34 months.

Thanks. They quote 75% processed within 33 months. It's hard to read into that. It could be interpreted as any time within that time scale!

  13. Hi. I'm Ian. My wife and I applied for 143 visas at the end of June 2015. We are now looking at early next year if processing times are right.
Thing is they quote 75% processed within 33 months. Does this mean it can happen at any time within this period. It's not clear.
