  1. hi all,
I just went through this thread &  lot of important info gathered reading the posts from senior members of this thread....I am presently sailing as chief mate on tankers, got my master coc in jan 2020, surfed thru home affairs website to look for options to migrate, 231213 is there in ROL for visa 491 & at present NSW & NT regions are accepting EOI's in this category...I have already sent my docs for assessment from AMSA & awaiting their reply to book my orals, below are my queries regarding this process:
    - the experience gained so far from cadet till mate will be considered for final file lodging?(attached screenshot for NSW requirements)
    - guidance to asses my BSc nautical science degree from Vetassess to claim 15 points instead of 10 as against master's licence.
    - when I get letter from AMSA for orals, do I need to apply for tourist visa or I can straightaway fly without visa, basis on AMSA letter?
I have started preparing for orals & planning to give it from Sydney ....meanwhile if any active members of this forum can help me out on above queries ,I will be highly obliged.

    Hi Sukhchain,

    1. For work experiences, look at the AMSA final skill assessment letter which will be issued to you few days after clearing your orals. The letter usually mentions the total stipulated work experiences in the maritime industry.

    2. For BSc nautical science degree, you can only take “Point Test Advice” from Vetassess. Pls check the Vetassess website for the steps required. If Vetassess recognises your BSc degree as equivalent to Australian Bachelor degree, you will be able to claim 15 points for education.

    3. You will need to apply for a tourist visa for orals unless you are from a visa waived country. You will be able to use the AMSA letter & oral booking confirmation as supporting docs when applying for tourist visa.

    Cheers!

  2. Hello everyone : [emoji3]
I hope I can meet someone who had a similar situation or knowing the answer regarding the health check
I submitted my PR application on Jan this year - After that, I finished the health check around April 2019 - my visa has not assigned to any case officer yet
On April ,when I did the body check : the doctor was  mentioning a potential issue of my body-  he said my health check result will be assessed by others due to this potential problem. If I need to do the further examinations - they may  contact me shortly ( at this moment- no need any further action from me )- my heart beats were frozen at that moment [emoji33]
Great, this comment from the doctor made me stressful and could not sleep well for one month [emoji31] I was waiting for medical centre contact me or I was worrying if I will have miss call from them or missed email from them
Not hearing anything from the medical centre - it has been 45 days waiting- no one contact me
I would like to ask for ur advice:
    1. If I need to do the further examinations, how long will they contact me to do it
    2. who will inform me do to further exams? Is the medical centre or my future case officer ? For example in the future, when my visa case officer accesses my visa, will he inform me to do further body exams ? or the medical staff will inform me now
    3. It has been like 45 days not hearing anything from the medical center- does it mean I pass the body exam or not really ?
Thank u in advance for everyone [emoji2320]
I am writing with a panic mind for this question
Ur suggestions will be a great help and thank u again

Pls check in your ImmiAccount what does it say about the status of your medical examinations.....

  3. Hello guys,
Can anyone also advice, as self holding UK masters unlimited Coc but haven't sail as master yet, but carry a 8-10 yrs of experience  as 2nd and  CM, so can self be able to apply under ships master category for 489 ROL.

    Hi Willboy,
Since you have master CoC, you will be able to apply under ships master category for 489 ROL. I had claimed part of my CM experience along with master & shore based job experience & they were accepted. Not sure if 2nd Mate experience will be accepted or not. In the AMSA final assessment letter, it will be usually mentioned how many years of experience you have after the master CoC & that experience you should be able to claim for points.
    Cheers!
  4. Hi there,
havung just returned from our second trip to Oz we have finally made a decision to emigrate, hopefully next year after our daughters GCSEs.
I am looking at paying an emigration specialist as we are applying for the 189 skilled visa.
Does anybody recommend any specialist law firms? Currently in early stages with one firm who seem very thorough and professional, whos fee is just under £2000 ontop of visa price. Good? Bad? Any recommendations gratefully received.
    Thank you [emoji16]

Suggest that you check with@wrussell ...cheers!

  5. I have asked my MA to upload it but he told me that many people are doing foolish things and upload it after reading forums about Form 80. It is not mandatory. In most of the cases they don't ask for Form 80 and give a direct grant. So why to make our application complicated. I'll wait for CO if he asks to upload Form 80.
I have lodged my Visa on 06/12/2018. Just a week behind you.
Hopefully we both will get our grant soon.
    Cheers!! [emoji846]

Hi Kunal, As far as I understand, form 80 is a mandatory document to submit. There is a specific tab in the attachment page in the ImmiAccount to submit this form. Pls check in your ImmiAccount. Cheers!

    Good day to all,

I am glad to see many of us Mariners are getting jobs in Australia after acquiring PR Visa, sooner or later.

It has taken a while for me since, I got my PR Visa in 2015. But still awaiting for my first maritime job in Australia.

To add more, I had to move back to India in 2016 after loosing financial security.

And now working in Indian offshore till date since I came back to India.

I am requesting the seniors to guide me in getting a job in offshore DP vessel ( I have Full DP license & Master's unlimited License).

My plan is to come back to Australia again to start my child's school in 2020.

I need a more specific direction to get job in Australia, or else its difficult to keep the PR visa valid & to achieve the long term goal of securing child's future.

    Sincerely.

    Hi Sevenseas,

In my opinion,  it is very difficult to secure a job in Australia while living in offshore location unless you are highly connected and extremely lucky.  You probably need to move to Australia first ... Cheers!

    Hi guys

    Cheers

Generally, offshore job prospects are a bit bleak last couple of years or so...however, heard from people that it's being picking up presently. You may keep checking seek.com to get an idea... Cheers!

My husband and I are searching for a migration agent to help us with our case. We are wanting to move from England to Australia, and I’ve spent quite a long time trawling through google, but there is just so much information, it’s a little overwhelming. We’ve come to realise it can be a little difficult to differentiate what is legit or not as we’ve come across ones that look really good and have been in contact with some, only to delve a little deeper to find that it may be a scam. Obviously when handing money over to someone, I want to be sure that it’s the right someone! Any advice anyone has or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I got very high quality free advice from @wrussell which helped me a lot in my visa application.

Hi everyone, I just joined this forum.

Understand that Ship's Master category may still be available under certain provinces and will be subject to some restrictions.

Is anyone else planning for COR this year.

Will it be worth trying our luck, suggestions are welcome.

    Thankyou.

Depends on your circumstances, if you are keen, it's a good idea to clear COR Orals and be ready to grab any opportunity. However, please keep in mind the monitory commitments required in the process...it does not come cheap!
