Some signs of hope from Scott Morrison’s press conference in Washington, where he said:

"Once we hit 80 per cent vaccinations, that means Australians will be able to travel in those states that are opening up, they will be able to get on planes and go overseas and come home," he said.

"And that means Australians who are overseas that are vaccinated with vaccines that are recognised in Australia, will be able to get on planes and come to Australia.

"The caps at the airport for vaccinated Australians to return will be lifted, and that means there will be the commercial demand for those flights to be put on. I don't think Qantas will have to be encouraged to start running those flights and putting people on those seats."

80% target should be reached sometime between October and December so hopefully that helps people with PR overseas to get flights with more confidence if not late this year then early next year.

I really hope this happens. Fingers crossed. Also, am interested to know how the vaccination verification will be done. I am fully vaccinated(AZ) and have a certificate as well. Will that be enough or is there some portal that I need to upload this for the Aus gov to verify?

  2. I already have my PR and made my first entry last year. I was all set to move there by Aug/Sep of this year but i have put things on hold for a while as i don't want to travel as soon as flights start to operate.

  3. Hey All,

I got my PR grant in Oct 2018 and made my mandatory entry in May 2019. I plan to make the permanent move to Aus by mid 2020. The reason for the delay in my move was coz i want to save up before moving to Aus. I wanted to know if there will be any complications for me? The reason i am asking is coz my friend told me yest that he knows someone who got her PR but was living abroad and was only making a weekly visit every 6 months or so and the gov sent her an email saying that her PR will be revoked if she doesn't make the move permanently. I couldn't sleep last night thinking about this.

Could someone please let me know if there is a deadline for people to make the permanent move? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Sonia

  4. Hello all,

My cousin s kid is coming to Aus to do his masters degree. His campus is located in Caulfield. Could anyone suggest any trust worthy websites where he can find an accommodation around this area? He plans to be in Aus by July 20th or so.

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    Sonia

  5. Hello Skani,

We are planning to be there from 23rd-28th of May. Its our first time there so we are interested to see the historic sites and do a lot of sight seeing and lil bit of adventurous things as well. I also would love to try out some local food and look forward to visiting the Salamanca market when we are there.

  6. Hi Degsy,

I would suggest you check the below website for mock tests. I also suggest you to check their YouTube channel for the strategies on answering different types of questions.

Hope this helps. Do stay calm during the exam as every second counts.

Good luck and do let us know how you did. :)

    Regards,

  7. Hello Brian,

I sat IELTS the first time and missed by 0.5 in the writing section. So i thought of giving PTE a shot and i scored 87 which gave me the 20 points. So i would suggest you do a thorough research on this and decide which test to sit. I think the below link can also help you.

All the best with your exam and application.

Just to update we received our 190 grants this morning. 200 days in total. 140 days to c/o contact then a further 60 days until grant! Felt like a lifetime, but very excited and grateful!!

Yay!! Congrats! All the wait was worth it yeah? The feeling after the grant is amazing. :) By when do you have to make the first entry?

Yes,  you are right. "mid 2019" should read as "mid 2018", "Jan 2020" should read as "Jan 2019". Rest stays as it is.

    Thanks for correcting me.

Congrats on your visa grant! Could you please let me know how much did the whole thing cost you? Thank you.

Hi @SoniaG. There are no "mandatory" things to be done on your validation trip, it's up to you what activities you undertake.

When I came to Sydney to validate my visa, I just had a holiday and did some exploring to better understand the city and surrounding area(s). My bank account was opened from my home country (UK) and when I moved here permanently, I visited my nominated branch to finalise the application and pick up the debit card. I would assume you can also wait until you arrive permanently, to open the account.

I also visited my local Dept of Human Services within the first few days of arriving to apply for a Medicare card/account (https://www.humanservices.gov.au/individuals/migrants-refugees-and-visitors).

You will also need to look at what happens with your Driver's Licence; this depends on what visa you're on (NSW details here https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/licence/moving-to-nsw.html).

Thank you very much for your response.

  11. Hello,

I got my 189 visa granted in Oct 2018. I plan to enter Australia in April 2019 to validate my visa. I intend to be there just for a month and return back to my country of residence. I plan to make the permanent move only by the end of this year or early next year. My question here is, what are the mandatory things i have to get done during my validation trip? My agent advised to open up a bank account but i read an article advising the following (Word of caution: If you are on a visa validation trip, please refrain from applying for Medicare card, TFN number and Centrelink.)

Can anyone please advise what has to be done in my case.

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    Sonia George
