  1. Hi InnerVoice, thank you for the reply. Yes, a rural posting in a new country and one as massive as Australia would be a big struggle with a young family. I have emailed the QPS recruitment asking if international recruits are de facto assigned to specific areas, that way I can start to research about the possible posting locations. Unfortunately policing in England is very much a losing game. I can handle the criminality and the victims, what I have found deflating is the complete lack of punishment for serial offenders, the constant and deliberate sabotaging of our role by the government and the prosecutors to prevent us from putting offenders before the court as they are "too busy and the prisons too full" all the while being forced to deal with offensive Facebook posts over burglaries, drugs, criminal damage etc. I'm hoping to speak to officers who can give me information about the logistics of how police there investigate and prosecute crime and what the general sentencing 'culture' is with the courts.
  2. Greetings, any UK bobbies considering the move? I sent their recruitment an email asking some basic questions but if others have any information/advice to share, perhaps we can make this topic a bit of a resource hub for applicants/hopefuls. I've been in 9 years and was actually hoping for a recruitment drive back in 2016/17/18 (after which I sort of gave up hope). I'm now married with 2 children and recently bought a house, so ideally I would have really preferred to move 2-3 years ago, but it is what it is. Anyone here a former UK cop or knows any former UK cops who are officers in Queensland and can offer any info on what the basic differences are in daily operational duties would be greatly appreciated. Kinds regards.
  3. You 're welcome. Good luck with your test :-)
  4. Hi Sarah, sorry, they were already snapped up so we both missed out :-(
  5. Cheers :-) I was thinking that was the case as I've read a few posts on here and elsewhere, with people stating they updated their EOI with more points prior to getting an invitation and never heard anyone adivse or warm them against it.
  6. She ha claimed points for IELTS which she has received. If she resits the IELTS and gets more points on it, can she not just update the EOI with those extra points and the IELTS reference? Does it need to be a brand new EOI?
  7. Urgent help how? She has submitted and expression of interest for both the 189 and the 489 with 60 and 65 points respectively, 10 of thos epoints from her IELTS results. I mis-spoke when I said she has applied as that could suggest we have received an invitation to apply. We still are waiting on on invitation to apply for both visas.
  8. Hi guys, my partner's applied for a 189 with 60 points but is looking to get an extra 10 from attaining the full 20 from the IELTS. So far she's had 3 attempts at the genereal and has just missed out on the 8 on reading and writing, so she was wondering if given how the academic will be more focused on her scientific knowledge (she's a biomedical engineer), she might end up doing better. She's had her qualifications assessed and accredited and they body has stated she doesn't actually need the academic IELTS. Does this mean she can choose either of them, or has to do the general? Many thanks for anyone who can shed some light. Cheers.
  9. Hi, I can take those off your hands :-) I'll send you a private message about them.
  10. So does that change things? I'm looking for a transfer down near her and hope to get it on the next 4-5 months.
  11. My partner has applied for a PR skilled visa and I'm a dependant partner.
  12. Hi again, thanks for the replies. My partner and I don't own any property together, however I'm looking to transfer down near her in the next 4-5 months. I'm currently a serving Police Officer in Scotland and Lancashire Police, which is a commutable distance from Liverpool where my partner will be working are accepting transferees, and they 've advised me it usually takes about 3 months from submitting the application to getting the transfer, so hopefully I'll be down there fro October/November. In the meantime, I will be staying in the flat we rent together and keeping her on the lease and council tax. I will be going down to see her by train at leats once every month and will be keeping both the printouts of the tickets as well as the receipts and be taking lots of pictures etc. Is there anything else anyone would advise?
  13. Hey guys, quick question. My partner and I have submitted our expression of interest (I'm added on as her partner) and she's just been offered a job in England (we are currently living in Scotland). If she takes it it will mean moving down south while I stay in Scotland for my work. Is this something that will effect our visa applciation? Do we need to update it that we are not cohabiting due to professional/job related circumstances? Thanks for your time.
  14. Hey guys, now that the occupations list has been updated and certain jobs been removed, does anyone know what this might mean for the ceilings in the ones still remaining? Also, it was originally going to reset in July, is that still the case, or will it reset earlier in order to correspond with the updated occupation list? Cheers.
  15. Cheers guys, I think holding off is the best course of action. Good luck with your applications :-)
  16. Hey guys, Happy New Year to all :-) Just a quick question, my partner and I were thinking of lodging our expression of interest this week as the timing suits us slightly better now than later (for personal reasons). It will be a 189 visa with myself as her partner. She sat her IELTS exam last Saturday and is pretty confident she got at least 7 on all the parts but the results won't be out till the 20th. My question is that if we lodge our expression of interest and state she has got the 10 VISA points from the IELTS exam, will the fatc that the results haven't been published yet come back to bite us later? I'm thinking about it in terms of it being construed as lying on the expression of interest by stating she has achieved a mark on her IELTS exam when the results haven't been published yet. I'm just wondering if it's better to play it safe and wait for the results to come out first, we'd hate to have a nasty surpirsesomewhere down the line. I'll be calling the Europe Service Centre tomorrow as well to double check, but any info before hand, either way, would be greatly appreciated. Cheers :-)
  17. Cheers for the suggestion. We read over it but are still a little confused as the UK is a signatory body for each accord and we 're still having a bit of difficulty trying to decypher it. Are there any other guidance sites that provide a bit more clarity? As we 're reading it, having also looked at the International Engineering Alliance website, we still can't tell for sure if it should be the Dublin or the Washington Accord. Both seem equally valid. Could this be the case? Can there be more than one valid option? Sorry if we 're coming off as a bit dense, but we 're mindful of the fact that once you start the application with one of the accords, you can't change it afterwards. Thanks again guys.
  18. Hi guys, I'm wanting to ask about my partner's certification. She's got a UK undergrad in biomedical material science and is finishing up her PhD, also in the UK, in biomedical engineering. She wants to get a skilled migration visa and needs to get accredited by The Instutition of Engineers Australia and would like to know which of the 3 assessment pathways she should choose for getting her qualifications recognised down under. There's the Washington Accord, Sydney Accord and Dublin Accord. Any biomedical enginners on here with some advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
  19. Cheers for the link, that's my reading assingment for tonight lol I expected it to be a lengthy and costly process, nothing's ever easy eh? Thanks mate ;-)
  20. Didn't visit Perth whilst we were over, couldn't get enough time off work to stay longer. I would have ideally liked another 10 days to see both Perth and Darwin.
  21. Hi guys, I was hoping there was someone on here who might have any insight in the (apparently) complicated legal profession in terms of the skilled visa. Solicitor and barrister are on the current list (updated as of 01/07/16) and undergraduate degrees as well as Masters can award up to 15 points, with a further 10 points for a trade/other qualification. I have an LLB in English and European Laws (basically your standard LLB Law but with an extra year abroad on Erasmus in an EU country) and an LLM in European Business Law, both from Essex University (an accredited and recognised university). I am also a memebr of the Bar Association of the Republic of Cyprus (a Common Law jurisdiction). I was called to the Bar in November 2013 (I did not practise law however, but I will not be claiming any work experience). There does not exist a differentiation between solicitor and barrister there, all legally qualified practitioners carry the title of 'advocate'. Where does this place me in terms of being able to apply for the visa in question? Does a common law jurisdiction with degrees from an English university count for their recognised equivellants? Or is it a case that you need to specifically be qualified in an Australian State? Thanking anyoen with info in advance. Cheers.
  22. Hiya. 8 years is a good length of time to get a proper feel of the place in terms of work and life-style. Where in Oz did you live?
  23. Hi everyone, grettings from the cold, wet and windy Paisley in Scotland. Like most people on here I assume I'm one of the many who's looking to move down under. I spent 20 days earlier this year visiting Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane (4 days each) and I must say I was quite impressed with the pace of life. I'm originally from Greece (raised there till 16) so the weather, the people, the food and the set up was very familiar to me, very much like Athens felt when I was growing up there back in the 90's and early 00's. I'm hoping to move to Oz with my partner and I'm on here to get as much advice as I can regarding the type of Visa we should each apply for. Looking forward to get to know people on here and hear/read about their respective experiences.
