So i arrived in Sydney in Oct last year. Im just filling out my tax return and wondered what are the regulations regarding things i can claim back against my tax bill. I work full time as a employee from a single location. 1) ive had to buy a load of new shirts, suits, shoes can i offset any of that against my bill? 2) ive had to buy a laptop can i claim that back? 3) some days i work from home , can i claim a percentage of my broadband 4) anything else i should consider?

Sorry to be a bit off topic. I wasn’t aware you didn’t have to pay rego if your toll fee is more than $25 per. Mine is over $70. How can you reclaim your rego?

We live just off the beach at Narrabeen, I commute to St Mary’s in 75mins and my wife to the Olympic Park every day. We have now been doing this since we arrived in Oct last year. I leave at 6;45am for an 8am start. It’s a long commute but no worse than my daily commute in the U.K. i spend a lot of time travelling to and from work but feel its worth it to live right by the beach. There are quite a few of us that do similar trips, so don’t give up on your dream

Hi Guys went to view a property prior to Auction yesterday. The real estate agent asked if I was interested which I said I was and then he said would I like to take a contract. Hi Guys, so im due to buy a nice second hand VW Golf tomorrow in Sydney. It’s got “Rego” till March next year. So my question is, does Rego also include CTP or do I have to purchase that separately before I can drive the car home? Don’t want to drive without any insurance! cheers luke

hi guys im driving from narrabeen along the Pittwater Road on a weekend and im seeing 20-40 second hand cars for sale parked on the side of the road. im still in a hertz rental and im looking for a decent second hand car. Can somebody explain the 'Rego" thing? Will the buyer expect cash or will a bank transfer be ok? whats the Oz equivalent of a uk MOT.? cheers Luke

Thanks for all the reply’s guys. we have settled on staying in Narrabeen, the commute is a long 1 1/4 hours to the SOP but worth it to live in such a fantastic place. Just looking for a permanent rental now so we can move out of our expensive holiday rental.

I’d love to stay but wondering what the commute to the Olympic Park will be like for my wife when she starts her new job? I’ve tried the express bus to the CBD and it wasn’t that bad

Looking at places to rent remotely as we are moving to Sydney from the U.K. next month. We are desperate to have the beach lifestyle for the first twelve months at least but my wife’s job is based in the Olympic Park 3 days a week and in the CBD for the other two. Is the commute from the northern beaches going to be too much every day especially to the Olympic Park or should I look south to Coogee down to little bay? PS is there a reason why the rentals appear to be so much better value in little Bay Area, is there something I should know ? cheers

Im due to move to Sydney on a 189 visa this October, I'm currently undergoing tests for abdominal pains with a urologist in the U.K., most of the bad stuff has been ruled out but if I still have to have further tests how will it work in Sydney. I'm planning on asking my consultant to write a letter confirming the tests I have undertaken. How will I acquire the services of a urologist when I land?

Hi All, This is my first post and i'm just starting the process of applying for a visa, My UK passport does not contain my middle name that is shown on my birth certificate. I've not used my middle name on any official documentation apart from my NHS records and NI number. Is this going to cause me a problem further down the line with my application? Kind Regards Luke
