  1. I suffered badly from ingrowing toenails for years and the pain was so awful that I finally decided to have my nails removed. It was done by a surgeon in a hospital with local anaesthetic and was the best thing I could have done. Couldn't go to work for the first week for fear of people treading on my toes on the tube and closed shoes hurt too much. The toe nails grew back completely normal and I haven't looked back since. I'm just careful now not to cut the nails too short

Obviously moving to Australia has helped as I wear open shoes for much longer than I did in the UK.

    Good luck

  2. I have given our good neighbour the phone numbers of relatives in the UK to be contacted should anything like this happen and asked her if she would look after our children for the time it would take for a relative to arrive from England.

The hire companies often need their vans relocating and they only charge $5 per day and give you a fuel allowance. The downside is there is normally a time constraint attached plus you can't plan very long in advance. Syd to Mel and Mel to Adelaide are often on the list. I get a daily email alerting me to the availability and as I am in Adelaide I have set it to only tell me about the Adelaide requirements.

Might not be what your parents need but it may be useful for someone else

The only other thing I have found when hiring camper vans is that Maui are better than Britz who are better than Mighty. The agency I went to said that Maui have the newest vans which get passed onto Britz who use them for a few more years and then they get passed to Mighty. From experience, our Maui hires have always been better than the only Britz one we hired

  4. I hadn't realised we'd have to pay to book particular seats. I didn't on A recent Qatar airways flight....you just went online and chose.

Our November flight will involve 2 adults, 2 young kids, and an infant so I really want the bulkhead row of 4 . Went online (Qantas) but I could only request a preference of window/aisle. I'd best phone in the morning I think!!

If I booked with Qantas but flights are actually with Emirates, who do you phone?

Just read on Emirates page that if you are travelling with an infant you are exempt from the charge as are all family members in the group....but as infant not yet born I can't add them to the booking just yet.

If you book a sky cot for your newborn, you will get the bulkhead row

  5. We validated our PR visa with a 2 week holiday shortly after it was granted but then couldn't move to Australia within the 5 years due to my husbands job. We contacted Go Matilda as our RRV was due to expire 5 months before his new job in Australia was due to start and they managed to get us new RRV which lasted 12 months allowing us to arrive after the initial 5 year period. We had to prove that he had a job in Australia but it was a pretty simple process

  6. I'm in Adelaide - arrived just over a year ago and love it. Its been so easy to get settled and everyone has been really friendly. It's a tough decision to make but if you stay there you will always be wondering "what if....". It sounds like you are doing the right thing with regards to your job and your flat in the UK. Yes it may cost you financially if it turns out to have been the wrong decision but at least you will have given it a go. You've been to Australia several times so you have an idea of what you are getting into. There are people who aren't so keen on Adelaide as it is smaller than some of the other cities but it works really well for us.
