  1. Hi, we are from SE (Eastbourne) and selling our car now as we are moving to Oz mid November and have a second car to use for the last few weeks. If you are still looking for a car, let me know and I will PM you the details. Thanks!
  2. Thanks Peachy! I dont think that a bit of rain will put us off I guess we just need to be prepared as much as we can and see what happens... Are there any estate agecy fees to be paid by the future tennants would you know? Thanks!
  3. I also want to add one more thing- are the rental prices advertised fixed or negotiable (if you for example agreed on paying 6 mnths/1 year up front)? Thanks!
  4. Hi everyone! need a bit more advise... We are coming over mid November 2016, we have arranged a temporary accommodation for first month after arrival. In that time we want to find a long term rental. My questions are: - is it realistic to secure a property between the end of November to mid December or does the market slow down because of the upcoming holidays/ Christmas? -are all the viewings an open house and does it get really busy? -WHAT PAPERWORK is wanted from us as future tennants and should we be bringing it to the viewings with us? We have been home owners for the last 6 years in the UK,so not sure how to get hold of references from estate agent if needed as its been a while...maybe our mortgage company statements would be equivalent? Please let me know about your experience!!! Cheers!!!
  5. Thanks for bringing the rego to my attention- is it something like road tax in the UK then, but more expensive? What about car insurance? Is it compulsory? Can you bring UK No Claims Bonus with you to get a discount? We pay around £300 per year on 2,2l Toyota Avensis with maximum No Claims Discount.. Sorry about all the questions, but just trying to work out the "worst case financial scenario"
  6. Ok, so am I right at thinking that living in a townhouse is cheaper (bills wise) than detached house? looks like it is...Mind need to reconsider... Also what is your average food bill ish - just to get an idea as we are a family of 3 as well? Thanks!
  7. Thank you for the info! Can I ask what "body corporate" means exactly??? Sorry if its a daft question, but new to this...
  8. Hi everyone, if all goes well we will be moving to Brisbane towards the end of this year... We will be renting for first couple of years, looking at renting a 3 bed house for about $350/400 max per week. I want to ask what other bills are additional on top of rent ( ie water, electricity, gas, internet, council tax,tv licence...???!!!) , how they are paid(weekly, monthly/) and what to expect cost wise for a family of 3 ? Need to do a bit of number crunching.... Thanks!
  9. Thank you very much for the info, looks like I will have to find a part time job!!!
  10. Good point, I haven't thought about it like that...Looking into areas north of Acacia ridge now
  11. It will be Acacia Ridge. We will be buying a vehicle soon after arrival, so will not be relying on public transport. I have narrowed it down a bit now, all within 30mins drive max(depending on traffic), so we have to wait and see what will be available closer to the time in those areas...
  12. Thank you everyone for your suggestions! Have to check them all out!!!
  13. Budget is $350-$400 pw max... Sorry, but didnt realise that south side of Brisbane is anything below the river. I meant bit more further down - anything from Cleveland/Victoria Point all the way across to Collingwood park and anything in between and around...Sunnybank, Forest Lakes etc...Sorry that I have no idea about these areas, Im just looking on a map at the moment and throwing names of suburbs around that would be suitable location wise, but obviously there is huge amount of other stuff to consider as well as the location... Thanks!!!
  14. Hi everyone! We are moving to Brisbane in November and need advice on what education options there are for a 3 year old( will be 3 end of December 2016)? I understand that its not compulsory as the schools age is 6??? Are there state and private Kindergartens? Do kids get any hours per week free at all? I would not be looking at full time (5 days as week), but only around 15/20hrs max per week. Many thanks!!!
  15. Hi everyone, we are moving over to Brisbane in November and I would appreciate advice on which suburbs to consider for rental??? Needs to be south side of Brisbane due to work commitments. We are a family of 3- myself, hubby and a 3 years old and would like to rent a house with garden and garage. We prefer quiet areas with parks, greenery, nature, but not too far to drive to Aldi/Coles etc for food shopping .Not bothered about bars, restaurants, nightlife at all. Kindergarten nearby would be a bonus Many thanks for any advice!!!
