My husband and I applied 7/11 as well but no e651 visa as yet.  Exemption was granted 15/11. We did apply for the Visa first and had a reference number to enter on our exemption application so it looks like it doesn't make any difference which order you apply!  As a matter of interest when are your parents due to travel?  We are not due to travel until January so wondering if this is the reason for the delay.

They’re travelling 15/12 so yep most probably the reason, good luck!

As @rtritudr said, "you first apply for your visa, then you apply for the exemption immediately with your visa application TRN so that the two applications are linked.  Once your exemption comes through then the visa will be approved."

That is the correct process at the moment.

In our experience, my Dad applied for an e651 but was rejected due to no exemption - then same day applied for exemption which has now been approved, so now is applying again for e651

I'll keep you updated on the result

    Brilliant for him, and you!

Just wondered when he is looking to travel? That is, how far in advance has he applied?

We haven't booked anything yet, dependent on the outcome and length of the visa/exemption process, but would love them to come for Xmas but i appreciate it's a very expensive long shot, so probably Feb/Mar next year...

Is there a time limitation around when to apply for the exemption? E.g. no more than 3 months before the trip, etc.?

You must submit your request for a travel exemption at least two weeks, but not more than two months, before your planned travel.

Assuming it remains the same as the current exemption process, you first apply for your visa, then you apply for the exemption immediately with your visa application TRN so that the two applications are linked.  Once your exemption comes through then the visa will be approved.

That’s great to know thanks, any ideas on processing times?

  6. Hi Amelia

    I'm in the same boat and as said further up, it's all very liable to change. As far as I can work out given the current situation parents would need to apply for both of the following;

    a) an exemption - which can only be applied for from 1st Nov and they'd have to supply evidence of your visa and being your parent (birth cert etc)

    b) a visa - i guess it's the standard 651 (as stated above)

I'm not sure in what order you'd need to apply for these and if it makes a difference, anyone know?

Trailfinders in UK told my parents to get a visa before booking,

Well the Pound/Aud had a hit today. Was hoping the news would be better and the BoE would rasie the rates in May would bring the Pound higher but looks like we may go down to lows 1.80 now.

Yep the momentum was good, fingers crossed for better things for Q2!

These type of predictions are about as reliable as those that predict a hot summer or a cold winter.  They can only be based on what is known now, and we live in volatile unpredictable times with Brexit, potential trade wars, and indeed the constant threat of real wars on top of a global economy always teetering on a cliff edge.

For my part I need to move at least some of my savings from the UK sometime in the next 12 months.

agreed! I keep my eye closely on site such as this one trying to work out any rhyme or reason to the market https://www.poundsterlinglive.com/aud

what I've noticed is every currency change is reported but never really predicted, I have now set goals with my forex broker who call me when the rate is reached,  which is preferable to watching the skittish market change on a daily basis...

  9. Hi all

I moved from UK to AU this year, before the move I shifted money over with a UK based Forex broker, now I'm here I'm looking for advice on if it's best to continue using a UK broker or a local AU broker to shift my money over? Does it matter, apart from convenience?

    Thanks for your thoughts!

    Cheers C

  10. Superb news.

Was your application straightforward? No other factors for them to consider etc....6 months is a little longer than the majority of the 5 month turnarounds at the moment.

Did you ever find out your CO initial?

Very straight forward, married 8 yrs with 3 kids all with Aussie passports! only thing I can think of is my wife applied for her UK citizenship and was approved in December, after which I updated my application

    Didn't get CO initials

  11. Visa approved this morning woop! Straight to 100 permanent resident, took a little longer than some which made me nervous, timings below;

    Visa submitted 22nd July 2016

    CO assigned 8th Sep

    Police checks uploaded 22nd Sep

    Medical completed 28th Sep

    Approved 17th Jan

Off to Sydney later this year with my wife and young kids, selling up our house and aim to purchase - just need the pound to strengthen or might have to rent for a while!

Thanks to everyone on this forum, it's really been a great help

    Nick
