  1. Hello, I was busy gathering all my documents for the skilled qualifications assessment as a secondary teacher, when I noticed that for the second part - the skilled employment form - you need to have at least 3 years experience in the last 10 years... ...I only have 2 years teaching experience as my other experience is before this, i.e.over 10 years.. ...In terms of points for the 189 visa..I could still get 65 points without any skilled employment points - but is this allowed? Many thanks!
  2. hi that's great info thanks! We will have a look at that In terms of when we get our points worked out by the skills 189, can he still get the points for having a Ba and Postgrad qualification? Despite the fact he would have had a RPL? many thanks!
  3. Hello I just jad a quick question about skilled visa applications..my hubby has been told he needs to get an experience assessment by the Australian computer society as his qualifications are not it related enough. can i ask if this impacts on the number of points he would get ..would his Ba in Business and Postgraduate Diploma in Management still count or the actual skills assessment? many thanks
  4. Hello, We are at the stage where the Australian Computer Association are assessing my husband's skills and qualifications. They have said his actual qualifications are not IT specific enough but have asked him to complete at Recognition of Prior Learning. He has a vast amount of work experience over 10 years - over and above what they need in exactly the areas of the criteria. Does anyone know if the Skills Assessment People will accept a Recognition of Prior Learning from the Australian Computer Association rather than the qualification based assessment? Many thanks
  5. Thanks so much for getting back to me! I am a qualified Secondary teacher but I haven't taught in a school for about 8 years. Would I be an issue? Thanks again!
  6. Hello We are at the early stages of starting an application for a skilled visa based on my husband's profession in IT. I run my own business and I am the process of potentially starting to sell on a very well known gift site in Australia (from the UK). Is there anyway of adding the fact that I will already have an online business in Australia to a 189 visa? I don't think I turn over enough to go with any other actual business visa as my business is only a year old. Many thanks for your help

    Medicare and visitors

Hi Many thanks I've been in there but it's confusing as it states any illness but when you go on the UK gov site it says not pre-existing conditions... ...so I was wondering if anyone might be able to make it a little clearer? thanks again!
  8. Hello Can I check with folks in here about medicare and visitors to oz. If we get PR and our UK parents come over to visit for 3 - 4 months each year what does Medicare cover for? I know not dentistry or ambulences or medical flights home if needed, so they would need extra insurance for these. does it included pre-existing conditions? Not routine checks but say for example someone has asthma and they get a chest infection relating to the asthma- would they be treated for free? Or if someone has angina and they have a stroke - (not likely I know just making up examples!) would they be treated? Many thanks and sorry if its been asked before!
  9. In terms of a 457 visa being temporary - can you apply for a 189 pr visa as soon as possible once you get there - at your own cost to make things more permenant? Perhaps that could help?
  10. Hi looking for some advice about Brisbane IT jobs.. If we brought finances for up to a year do you think he could secure a job in or near Brisbane? Anyone there at the moment? Many thanks!! My Husbands I.T. background is predominately Systems Analyst / Business Intelligence based - encompassing reporting, testing and developing. This has given me experience in SAS, SQL, SSIS and Business Objects
  11. Brilliant that's great to know-gives us options just in case!
  12. Hi We are preparing to apply for a 189 skilled visa under systems analyst. If my hubby gets a job - is there anyone checking it matches the original criteria e.g. What if he got a completely different job once there - how does it work? Not planning to put it would be useful to know thanks

    EOI Fees

Hi Sorry if this has been asked before but I can't seem to figure out from the government's website... At what point to you pay for your 189 Skilled Visa Application - is it when you complete an EOI? ..or is it once you have been selected to apply for your visa? Is there an additional fee for the EOI? Oh and is it advisable to start getting your qualifications recognised by Australian organisations before you apply for an EOI? Many thanks
  15. Thanks as we thought then! Yes Brisbane seemed like the perfect location for us but there are not many jobs - as all the company headquarters are in Melbourne and Sydney. OK thanks - more research to be done!
  16. Hi My husband and I are seriously considering the move to Australia - we originally thought of Brisbane (due to the climate and lower housing costs) but we have been advised that jobs in my hubby's area are mostly in Sydney or Melbourne. We ruled out Sydney originally as we thought we would never be able to afford a house there - just wondering if that really is the case? We are a family of 4 - would want a nice suburb within an hour commute door to door of central Sydney - ideally as near to the coast as possible. My other half's salary would be around $100,000 and I may get a part time job or transfer and continue my Etsy business there. We were looking at houses of up to the low $600s in Brisbane. Any advice much appreciated Many thanks!
