Be mindful that there's hundreds of people in your trades scratching around for work over here! I've spoke to so many that have had to uproot the family from one end of Oz to another in the search for work and may have to move on again! Many have been out of work for months! Lots of desperate people willing to do anything! Don't believe the hype that there's a shortage and your skills are in demand, plenty in the que before us mate! Not trying to put you off just wanting to make you aware!

As long as you have a postal address doesn't have to be an oz one either.

I've just had a quote for 40ft container, them packing without insurance from Darwin to Uk for $15,000! :rolleyes:

We didn't have an address before our belongings set off and we didn't have an address until they actually reached Australia, all was ok for us!

Thanks for your honesty Keith and Linda, we will have a think. Just for the record though we keep the house in an immaculate state as if it were our own. The landlord will have nothing to repair, it will ready to rent straight away!

Wow! Lots of different feelings now, you've left me slightly confused! I don't want to leave the landlord in a mess! I'm an honest person and I can see it from the landlords perspective too! But I too am making a substantial lose each week that I cannot recoup! So I'm seeking the right thing to do.....so if I give notice now, will they be able to make us homeless in a couple of weeks......I wanted to give lots of notice so they had time to start advertising. I understand I maybe liable to pay rent until lease ends but I was hoping that this won't be the case if they/we find someone to take over given the amount of notice we would be giving! :eek:

Hi again! So we have took the bull by the horns and booked flights back, but four months before lease ends! My question is, do we tell the agent now and give them three and a half months notice or wait? Unsure what to do! :0/

we are in Darwin too, $900 for a quarter! Nearly fell off my chair when i opened it! Do have a pool though but we are very tight with running things!:eek:

We are heading back end of 2016! (Once lease ends) We gave it a shot, no regrets, no bitterness! Australia has taught us a valuable lesson of appreciation! We came here for something different, and got it, but we can not afford it! We will return to the UK broadened and un-afraid, after setting up life on the other side of the world everything else seems a breeze! Going to make the best of a bad situation and enjoy what's left of our time down under!

We waited for our eldest to turn 18 before coming out to Oz as he was adamant he didn't want to leave friends and his job! We wanted whatever made him happy so he moved in with Grandparents, everyone willing to help support him and we wasn't to worry! But when Grandparents took on the parenting role relationships wore, family don't go to the levels we do as parents. We have only been gone 7 months and we hate and struggle every time hes struggling! Leaving children (no matter their age!) behind is very hard, we tried to convince ourselves it was his choice to stay but really it was our choice to go, and as a parent that's a huge weight to carry on with. I honestly feel if he had left home before we had gone that would have been different but he wasn't ready to leave home either. Be aware that everything you enjoy whilst not together, your brain will reflect on how that might have been if you were all together. We are returning to the UK some point this year, main reason we can't support ourselves financially here, but honestly we also need to go back and support him too till hes truly ready to fly our nest. I will always be thankful that he gave us his blessing for us to scratch our itch and although his life has been pretty pants since we left he holds no grudge either.

I'm already the biggest loser in this for believing the hype! Unfortunately I'm also not the kind of person that gets away with stuff! Ha I'm the one the judge decides to make an example of!

I've read the lease agreement again, we have to pay the rent till someone else takes over and advertising fees. No one will take over there's an easy four empty houses in just my street and if I have to pay I'll stay. We are short on food money but we are taking this from savings, sparingly! We've lived on the bread line before (about 20years ago) so I'm sure we will manage again and it's not forever! Thankfully!

Your right there AJ, loads of empty properties here! Better choices at cheaper rent too at the minute :0/

Hi, I am very new to this but i'm seeking advise regards breaking the lease on my tenancy agreement from what I've read so far you guys seem to have the knowledge and experience. We came to Darwin back in September 2015, we are struggling to support ourselves financially so have decided to return to the UK. Our lease ends the beginning of November 2016, I've read of the agreement its got a long list of penalties! Are there any ways around these? What have others done? Can we still be chased for these once we have gone? Thanks in advance!
