My biggest issue is with paperwork, I seem to have kept every scrap of paper for the last 30 years. I've broken 3 shredders so far and I'm still going.

we too have spent last 3 days shredding old paperwork, especially old uni course notes no longer needed.

Could you not pay the additional fee for them to save you the hassle.

    Hi There,

Yes we have offered to do this but they would prefer if we didnt have to do the hassel of changing their policy as originally it did not cover other drivers.

They will do this for us but the easiest solution for them is if we have a WA licence so thats what we are trying to arrange.

    Are you sure about this?

AFAIK, in Australia, they generally insure the vehicle, regardless of the driver

Yes unfortunately to add us to their policy without extra cost etc we have to have a AUS licence, they do have a discounted policy and this is one of the restrictions apparently,

They have said we can drive on UK licence but will require an adjustment to the policy and additional fee.

  4. Well we are fast approaching the point where we can submit our EOI (end of september) and we are roughly hoping to move to Perth around August next year based on many factors including the Kids schooling. So we have decided to actively de-clutter the house.

All I can say is its not going to be a quick process, we seem to have amassed so much stuff and by the time we have finished my Ebay feedback should have gone up loads lol.

There's many things we plan to sell some sooner others last minute such as cars and motorbikes etc.

How did everyone else find the process of de-cluttering and getting rid of stuff?, did you find it therapeutic to move towards a fresh start or emotional to let things go?

  5. HI there,

Thanks for that, we need to get WA licence asap when we arrive as we are being loaned a car by family and the insurance they have wont cover us on uk licence. We also wont have tennancy agreement etc as we will be staying with family, so no utilities etc. I think it will be this extra proof of address we struggle with as we will have everything else of the list above except that. We can apply for TFN and medicare pretty quick from what i understand.

    thanks

    steve

  6. Hi there,

    thanks for the reply.

I have the australian debit card and bank statement already.

Obviously we will have passport and visa.

im assuming we can sort Medicare and tax file number quickly too.

We won't have a tenancy or utilities bill as we will be staying with friends. We won't even have a new phone or car for at least 3 months as we're with three in uk and we can use it as if in uk for upto 3 months at a time whilst in oz. we will be using families spare car too when we arrive.

    Cheers

  7. Hi There,

I have searched the threads and struggled to find clarification on the specifics so hoping someone can help.

Im trying to find out what ID documents i will need to provide to exchange my Full UK driving licence cat A & B to a WA cat R&C licence.

The WA website does link to a document showing lists a, b, c and D but im not sure how i would be able to satisfy enough of these when only being in the country a few months.

Im hoping someone who has done this recently can shed light on what they used to complete this.

    Regards

    steve

  8. AHPRA have a pre written stat declaration for your COGS being out of date you just sign in in front of their witness at the desk,

We opened a bank account with NAB about 3 weeks before we arrived, transffered some money in from UK and then finalised account on arrival and picked up Bank cards, they then printed us out a statement as proof of address

thanks Jess. ahpra are now requiring a job offer to start the registration process. once I start looking (subject to visa going through) I'll apply anyway a d explain that can't start registration without a job offer. hope that will suffice but was wondering how it has played out in reality so far!

Hi Aurora can you direct me to information on this new requirement for a job offer for Ahpra registration.

  10. I have just been browsing the Border.gov website as you do actually looking for a potential way for my sister to move out to Oz and stumbled across the remaining relative visas, although this visa is not applicable to her due to having our mother and brother still in the UK it seems it is pointless anyway as the processing time is essentially outside any normal persons scope as quoted below.

"Based on current planning levels and the allocation of the majority of the Other Family places to the Carer visa category, it is currently estimated that Remaining Relative and Aged Dependent Relative visa applications that were lodged in 2014 and meet the criteria to be queued are likely to take approximately 50 years to be released for final processing (calculated from 14 August 2014)."

surely they may as well just suspend these visa types for new applicants based on those figures?

  11. Hi

Can anyone advise me on what scan quality is the minimum for the visa supporting documents and also any other details such as max file size and if certain documents should be combined etc. I am trying to get all the documents scanned in ready to make the process easier when the time comes.

    Cheers

  13. The important factor regarding certifying of documents is that the country/organisation asking for the document often stipulates who they allow to certify the documents such as AHPRA for nursing only accept JPs, Notary and consulate officer outside Australia, however in Australia their is a large list.

Only certain people can witness a statutory declaration due to it being a legal statement and not a certified copy of an original document, this is usually a notary or JP.

  14. Nursing and other medical are some of the hardest and most complicated to get through. I am applying for a skills assessment as a mechanical engineer which is far more straight forward however harder to get a visa due to pro-rata invitations and likely to be removed from the SOL.

Don't pick a occupation just because its on the SOL as the SOL can change at any time, you could spend 2 years of a 3 year degree to find the occupation is no longer on the list and your back to square one, so pick something you are happy to do regardless, on a side note Engineering is a very hard subject to study even though it is simple to be accepted by Australia due to the Washington accord.

  15. Hi sorry for jumping on this thread somewhat,

I have recently found out that whilst serving in the military in the UK the National Insurance contributions were category D not A and s such state pension contributions are lower then expected under the presumption the military pension will fill the gap. Now my issue is regarding the freezing of pensions when we migrate. It states the reduced entitlement I have due to these reduced contributions will also be frozen from when we migrate. How do HMRC know to freeze the pension and is this the same for private pensions etc. There appears no point in making top up contributions if the pension pot will not grow over the next 33 years until i can draw on it in 2050.

Any advice or help on understanding this would be appreciated.

  16. if your dissertation is on that subject, then could your proposed occupation be in that area or strongly related ? In which case you may zero in on the occupational shooter category ?, I think that's certainly worth a shot despite what bureaucratic turrets you may have to climb.

    all awful puns intended........

Awesome, had to rep you for that!

On a side note though my masters is actually a MEng - Mechanical but decided to do something different then everyone else, working with a company caller Extreme Precision which is great fun.

  17. Does anybody have info on regs for WA, i have found the licensing info but just trying to find out what will happen. I am really into target shooting, so much so that my masters dissertation is on characterisation of propellant and primer combustion in high accuracy military and police use. We are coming out for a short break next week to show the kids what perth and surrounding area is all about so would be good to scope out ( pun intended) whats about.
